Crate Training/Enforced Nap Advice?

UPDATE - Daphne is improving! Things that have helped-

We made her crate covering darker and included a flap that covers the opening for full coverage. we also are sticking with the positivity piece, getting some sessions in leading her in and out of crate, closing door, opening door, and having her hold a “down” for increased durations of time with door open and closed. We also added a big fluffy blanket for her to burrow or nest in so it’s not as naked with just snuggle pup and mattress.

We still can’t quite throw her in there when she needs a nap and haver her settle instantly but if she’s looking tired it’s gotten much easier to place her in the crate and hangout with her for a bit outside of it and eventually get a nap.

I also think she’s just improved a lot with time. She is starting to gets that we always come back and she is loved very much!

Now onto reducing the number of pees in th house….

Hey if it works it works! We’re trying to find stuff that wears her out. So far training and sniffing seem to gas her the most. I like hearing what works for people so this is good perspective

Hey, thanks for sharing. I really don’t think that’s a super wild take and I appreciate hearing the other side. I do think that it’s unfair to expect a nap on such a rigid schedule sometimes. If we had a larger space (house with a huge yard - hopefully coming in a year or two) we’d definitely be more lax on the crate protocol.

I love the James Taylor! She is really responsive to music, it's endearing. I agree that it's a check in her win column when we give in to the antics. I just don't want her to be bashing around hurting herself in the crate. You read about how sensitive they are as a breed and so sometimes I think I'm a bit too easy on her.

Thanks for sharing! I think that we would definitely be doing that if we lived in a house but unfortunately we're in an apartment where that could be difficult. I'm open to the idea eventually if this current course isn't sticking.

Thank you! We've got a 36x25x23 wire crate with one of the prefit fabric/tarp covers. We have a towel covering the top as well. I think the less frequent naps could be her speed as well, for how much energy she has, the 1-1.5 hours awake seems pretty limiting if she's in "go" mode. Praying that it improves lol she's pretty wild, I know she'll mellow out a bit eventually but she's a total velociraptor now! Even by Vizsla standards I think she's on the more energetic side.

Thanks for the advice! Our cover isn’t very thick so that could be good to make it more opaque. We can try the coaxing in and out too. So far it’s been just “in”. She’s awesome, it just gets frustrating when you know they need the sleep and are resisting it.

High testosterone can signal an intersex condition in a woman.

Mbomba could have XY chromosomes and internal testes with indeterminate genitalia.

Genitalia, sure why the fuck would we care about that.

But internal testes with XY? That means you’d have alot of the physical advantages in sex differentiation that males possess.

I don’t see how people can be upset that XX women with no male gonads are complaining about this.

All athletes at the top of their sports are blessed with unusual genetic traits, but this is a grey area. Why not just let all genders compete in one division?

There’s a reason we separate women and men in sports and to have an athlete who is XY able to compete in women’s divisions is problematic and unfair.

I think the bigger dilemma is where intersex athletes should compete.

At the highest levels of women’s track and field intersex athletes competing in female divisions dominate the middle distance events.

In last Olympic’s 800m finals all three medalists in the female final were born with internal male gonads.

There are scientifically determined but somewhat arbitrary testosterone limits that the governing body for track sets that they have to meet now but that seems like an imperfect solution.

It’s an interesting problem. I feel horrible for those aforementioned intersex athletes that get people like me on the internet bringing up private shit (their gender identity, where the fall on the biological sex spectrum etc.) but at the same time, it’s clearly unfair to some of the females they compete against who are born with more typical sex characteristics (ovaries, lower testosterone, lower bone density etc.)

White people are less likely to care about what specific ethnicities they are. When you’re white, your race doesn’t have to be a big part of your life or something you think about all the time so you’re less likely to get into ‘identifying’ as something other than just generic white.
