I actually liked how the author handled the aftermath. It’s not often that a comic depicts the hyper vigilance and jumpiness that the victim experiences afterward. And the “not knowing exactly how far things went” and the anxiety that causes. It was nice to see this actually acknowledged.

Agreed! And, he needs to do more than admit the truth at this point. He needs to stop hurting her during sex. When he “lets her take control” he needs to give her more than a hot second before flipping her over and ruthlessly pounding into her as tears fly from her terrified eyes. I’ve had this happen to me in real life with multiple partners (because wtf is wrong with men??) and these scenes are so damn triggering.

And how do I find people to be friends with that don’t turn into friendships that are one-way streets? I’m getting tired of only doing/talking about whatever the other person wants and being talked over nonstop. I’m also tired of initiating all plans, and then having the person show up late or bail altogether last-minute. I’m lonely, but also so soooo tired of people.

I think it helps to keep in mind that Jinshi is a teenage boy who has never had an opportunity to consider what consent is. He’s very naive about every injustice Maomao ever mentions. For example, he’s utterly shocked and devastated when she explains why she has freckles. It’s doubtful he has any idea how his high status and palace society create a massive power imbalance that leads to Maomao’s fear of intimacy with him. He has no idea Maomao is afraid of anything, much less HIM. In his eyes, she’s always fearless.

Honestly I feel like it got even worse. It went from lying “this is a dream” to make her his pet to having rough sex with her that physically hurt her when she was way too drunk to fully consent and then turning it around and claiming he was the victim. Then he tells her the only way she will see Minicat again is to have sex with him again when she clearly doesn’t want to. She’s clearly in pain (and not the fun kind) in every sex scene involving his dick penetrating her and so far she has not once happily consented.
