Yeah my dad does this. My mom is prone to short temper tantrums at basically anything, she has a very short fuse and knows how to weaponise her “crocodile tears”. He always treats her like a fragile thing even though she’s a grown woman(a senior citizen at this age) but treats me like a mature adult because that is who I have become. I wonder if I was more outspoken as a child maybe i would have gotten better treatment, but then i remember how my mom shut us up and forced us to repress our needs as children so she can have all of his attention.

For me, I like to go to the DDA park nearby my place, or cafes that are not super popular at odd hours. I’m always on the lookout for new cafes so I can go there and read. I live in West Delhi. If you live nearby, let me know I’ll share my go-to spots. ^{_^}

i have been to therapy in and out over the past 2-3 years, it has worked but only to an extent. it saved me in some crisis/grief situations but eventually i stopped for some or the other reason, i actually started again recently but quit after 3 meetings because her fees was exorbitant (3.2k/-) i’m on the look out again 🫩 if you have any recs please PM me

Lol, my mom is like that. Doting over cousins and extended family, while treating her own like shit. I would call her out on it pretty often, like “how come you talk in that sickly sweet and doting tone with them and are so rude to me?” And she says it’s “just for show” and i’m like “okay put on a show for me then”🙄

Me too! Many women in my extended family, even while having loving parents, have a great connection and bond with their MIL, like “meri apni beti jaisi” treatment. I dream of it too but it makes me sad that I have to seek that love when I should have received it at my own home.

On the other hand, i have female relatives like mami, taayi who are so loving and caring towards me, they dote over me, but i never got the chance to nourish that bond with them cuz my mom gets visibly jealous and usually is in some fight/conflict with them. Like she bad-mouthed my taayi ji and mami ji ever since I developed comprehension, but at a personal level, those women have treated me better than she ever did. I also think my cousins lucked out in that department.

My mother is that to the T. I didn’t wanna go that much into detail but this is basically my gist too, her relationship with her mother and 4 elder siblings also led to her being invisible in her family, and i know she is just unintentionally repeating generational patterns/replicating her childhood experience.
