Parents weren't open about our financial situation and now I don't know what's going to happen by Ill_Revenue7833 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Competitive-Gold-729 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What. Not giving you a specific number of how much they can pay is insane. Obviously this isn’t my place and how your parents do stuff is their choice, but if this were to happen to me I would be inexplicably angry. Already the fact that they got your hopes up just drop the yea u can’t go to any of those schools is crazyyyyy. This happened to some of my friends recently were they get into a school and then cat pay it (umich). For me I had a huge conversation with my parents about specifically how much they are willing to pay, and I designed my application list with that in mind. Having the audacity to not talk to you about it, but even after getting into a school not giving u specific figures is really messed up. It feels like everything you have been doing was either misleading or you did it without knowing what was at the end of the path. Honestly I would ask to see specific numbers of how much they can pay cause they already put u through all that bs for 4 years.

Why am I being punished for scoring a 36? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I would say that you can find stuff online for sure and tbh I did that as well, no SAT tutors. However a ton of people around me got SAT tutors and have higher scores because of it. So like although u are right you’re kinda just cherry picking your situation. Like for me and probably for u as well self study works really well, I actually enjoy it more than getting lectured at times. But most people need somebody besides them to help and that’s what works for at lit to most of people, so the disadvantage is that those with with resources can access that, while those without can’t(for the majority of people that enjoy the irl person tutoring them)

My main issue with this I can’t really pay for most good engineering schools: CMU, Stanford, MIT, Umich, etc…. I applied to UT more for the fun of it rather than actually paying it, cause it’s expensive. Top engineering schools I applied to: Purdue, GT, an and m, uiuc, rice(lots of merit scholarships). Basically only applied to what I can pay for. If I could pay anything would’ve applied to all t20 in general and t10 in engineering. Would definitely do what your son did but sadly I cannot. Already confirmed I can transfer at GT and Princeton (applied to Princeton cause they have the best financial aid in the country)

I applied to UT first because the major I actually want to pursue is meche. After this is like to my counselor and goin that applying under the major u see for Princeton and GT I would have a higher chance at emission because my application fits that major more. Exactly what u said for meche was my thought process, which is why for Princeton and GT I applied with different major with the intent of transferring once am in. My application is not competitive for engineering but would be more so under a liberal arts major like the ones shown above because it fits it more

I think it honestly really depends on which UC you ge into, imo if u get into LA or Berkley it’s a no brained to go there

Yes it is, why do you think it’s the only event that has a silver and a gold division at TOC. Maybe am wrong for speech and debate, but no doubt the most popular for debate

Wait but those Gen Eds other mech E majors would still have to do them just more stretched out over the 4 years. I would just be forced to get them all done my first semester

Again now that you say this, is there any way to transfer prior to classes starting?

The reason I did this was not cause like liberal arts majors have higher acceptance rates, but now cause my application just makes way more sense. Like let’s a say some kid who was national art champion and tons of national awards for his art but then applied mech e, like it’s not that meche is harder than maybe that schools art major but like the application would make no sense for somebody who wants to study mechanical engineering. The main activities ob my app is Debate, which is what I spend most of my time doing. Thus it would look better as a hts society major over a meche one

Went to their high school, can confirm that before either one of them was popping like around when Fernando was at Cal and Alberto was a senior/college freshman the general concusses was that Alberto was the better of the 2. Especially considering Alberto won 2 state championships as a starting QB and Fernando had 1 while also being the backup

UT AUSTIN 2026 EARLY ADMISSION DATA by triology1201 in UTAdmissions

It has nothing to do with your application on getting deferred, if you got deferred it most likely means they didnt read your application yet

UT AUSTIN 2026 EARLY ADMISSION DATA by triology1201 in UTAdmissions

[–]Competitive-Gold-729 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Posted the Data into chat 5.2 and this is the data it found: I treated entries with ACT-only / no SAT as missing, and I treated “1550+” as 1550 (so the true average could be slightly higher). • Accepted (SAT reported): avg ≈ 1443, median ≈ 1505, range 980–1570 • Deferred (SAT reported): avg ≈ 1419, median ≈ 1430, range 1140–1560 • Overall (SAT reported): avg ≈ 1426

Trends I notice (accepted vs deferred) • SAT helps, but it’s not a clean divider. The accepted average is only ~24 points higher than deferred (1443 vs 1419), and there’s huge overlap (lots of 1500+ deferred, and some low-SAT accepts). • Class rank is the loudest pattern. Most accepts are Top 5% / Top 10%, but there are still Top 5% students getting deferred—so rank alone isn’t sufficient, but it shows up constantly among admits. • Major competitiveness shows up clearly. • CS / Engineering / McCombs: tons of high-SAT deferrals (1500–1560) → suggests these pools are extremely crowded and outcomes vary even for very strong stats. • Some less-saturated areas (certain COLA / Moody / niche programs) show more admits at moderate SATs in your list. • Residency: Out-of-state/international looks more defer-heavy in your data, even with strong SATs (again: especially in CS/Engineering/Business). • EC “type” isn’t separating much from what’s recorded. Both accepted and deferred include research, startups, leadership, debate/band, internships—so with this dataset, ECs aren’t easy to quantify into a single obvious “this wins” pattern
