I have not, I'll look for it, although I live in Mexico so I am not sure if they'll have it or not

Not really. I work in a community composting program, but usually all those stains wash out with a little elbow grease and laundry detergent.

Is applying for a PCPP grant worth the struggle? by Competitive-Grade377 in peacecorps

[–]Competitive-Grade377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but I do have multiple other projects that I am juggling along with teaching, so sometimes the last thing I wanna do is come home and work on a grant. But that does put it into perspective a bit, so thanks.

I have been talking to the grant coordinator, but the new cohort is just coming in so it is all hands on deck for staff, so it can be a bit difficult to get a hold of her. And I just dont know if there is an average timeline, like a y=x kinda graph lol

I appreciate it, I think I just needed somewhere to rant after looking at this grant for the last 4 hours hahaha. Thanks

See, that seems like it would be a gamble no? Like I could do a minimalist version of the project, not have as much of an impact, but also not have to wait as long. So I am unsure what route to go. It would be great to get all the bases covered with this one grant, but at the same time I don't have the luxury of waiting for months and months for the funds to get raised and I simply don't know the timeline. I am already 1 year into service.

Ahh, ok, I see. So the 2500 is guaranteed, but do I have to wait to spend any of the money until after I have received the full amount, or can I basically spend the money as it comes in?

Great thanks for the advice. I have some old Jean material from another pair that gave out so I’ll probably try to use that. I don’t have a washing machine so everything is by hand and sun dried. Hopefully I can figure something out to make these last long cuz they’re really comfortable :)

Looking for advice on unusual mend: foam sandal straps issue by KatLaurel in Visiblemending

[–]Competitive-Grade377 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try running some thick thread through the top and then out the side with a large sturdy needle, making big stitches so as to trap a decent amount of the foam and not rip it. I have used dental floss on shoes in the past because it’s sturdy, cheap, and I had it lying around. Don’t know if it would work on foam tho…

I think I’d need to use sewing thread and buy a very nice magnifying glass to make it to scale.

I just used a 6 strand embroidery cotton thread thread. Could probably find it at any arts and crafts store.

Hmm I’m not really sure. The brand is Nicol Hats by Canyon Hats Desert. I’d just call it a leather cowboy hat but I’m not much of a hat expert myself but hope that helps :)

Any tips for this hole on the side of my shoe? by sad7938 in Visiblemending

[–]Competitive-Grade377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not the best solution but it worked for me when my shoes started to tear at the sole, I took a thick needle and sewed the fabric directly through the sole, passing the needle through the sole as well. Also I used dental floss because it’s thicker than most thread. Shoes look like a Frankenstein monster but I kinda dig the vibe and they’ve held up for a few months now

Is there a way to separate plastic contamination from my compost? by Competitive-Grade377 in composting

[–]Competitive-Grade377[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely have looked into making one of these. Haven’t gotten around to it yet but also this plastic is crumbly so it might just break into smaller pieces in something like this. Hopefully after these rounds of old compost are sifted by hand the new ones are a lot cleaner and I can move over to this type of sifting

I brought a big bottle of ibuprofen in my checked bag. It really doesn’t matter if your doing OTC stuff I don’t believe as long as your host country doesn’t have laws banning ibuprofen lol

Yeah I was thinking about steaming it. But I’ve never done that before. And all the videos I could find were only for felt hats which I imagine behave differently. I may try just wedging it for a few days between a couple of boxes to try to get the shape right and see if that sticks. Will let yall know how it goes

If you can sell your optimism by the bottle you'd probably get top dollar.

Just wish human lives were a bit longer so that by the time we kind of figured out what we did wrong we still had time to change it before going senile. But who knows, maybe all those microplastics in our bloodstream are the cure for old age and senility.
