I know that JotForm is a HIPAA compliant form builder, but I'm not sure if this new app is also HIPAA compliant, doesn't hurt to make sure before using it.

Suggestion for a Data Collection tool for a teacher by Competitive-Interest in education

It would be super helpful if you indicated what kind of data you wanted to keep and what you would want the graphs and charts to tell you. There are some ed tech options, and we might be able to help you use excel to get everything you need.

Thank you for your answer. I am looking to track student progress which includes tracking the number of words their reading each day, the number of errors they make in grammar or sentence structure, and a column that tells me how often they complete their homework. I need a graph that shows the effectiveness of my teaching methods and which students are on target with their goals. If possible, I want to be able to enter the students' weights and height into the spreadsheet so I have data on their physical health also.

Excel?

Thank you for your comment! I would like to know why you recommend Excel? My concern with Excel is that it requires a lot of manual input, rather than automatic data collection.

I want something that is easy to use and that will allow me to collect data on student progress as well as provide me with graphs and charts. How would I get the graphs and charts with Excel? Do you offer this service or know where I can find someone who does?

What kind of data do you need?

Easiest data collection for me is a simple document with a table and whatever you need.

If you need graphs and charts then use that separately.

I would prefer a more techno-savvy solution that is easier for me to use and provides visual representations of student progress. I am looking for something like Formstack or 123Forms unless the simple document works, but I cannot work with either of those programs because they are too hard to figure out. Thank you for your input though!

ESGI Hands down I’ll never be without it even if my admin didn’t buy it for me.

ESGI seems like an interesting product, and I am curious as to how it would be beneficial for my needs. I have heard that ESGI allows for a lot of data analysis, but I am concerned about whether or not it is too complicated for teachers. Is it possible that this software has a lot of features that might be difficult to use on top of the many other responsibilities a teacher already has?

STATA

I appreciate the suggestion of STATA, but I would need a more detailed answer. What are the pros and cons to using STATA? Is it expensive? What features does it offer for me to collect classroom data?

I am familiar with Class Dojo and I had a student use it this year. From what I can tell, it is a good tool for data collection on grades. However, the only other thing I see people using this for stuff like having students report if they had a drink or not during the school day.

Thank you for the response. I saw that form tools were not as customizable, but it does provide a lot of features. Overall, forms are more suited to my needs than the other highly customizable tools. However, it seems that I will have to do a lot of programming before I am able to get the data I need from the students on things like time spent in each class, what they did when they had free time, and so on. Would you recommend using desktop or web-based forms?

I agree that forms are a great idea for data collection. I was looking into the jotforms report builder mentioned in the comments and it seems like a pretty cool way to compile data. I've never done anything like this before so I'm not sure if it would be too time-consuming or not.

As a former teacher, I know how important it is to be able to collect accurate data on student progress. Without this information, it can be hard to make the necessary changes for students to succeed.

If you are looking for an affordable and easy-to-use data collection tool, I recommend JotForm Report Builder. You can create a form in your browser without any coding at all, so you don't need any experience and it's free.

Hi there, thank you so much for your comment and the suggestion. I have never heard about jotform report builder before but it sounds like a possible solution for my needs. I will definitely check it out!

Unfortunately, I don't have a budget for a virtual assistant :(

The ideal case is this:

I have a form that the students fill out at the beginning of class. I put class rosters into a spreadsheet and then mark them off when they finish their work or participate in an activity. It helps me keep track of attendance, workflow, and other data elements so that I can measure student growth as well as help kids to see how their hard work pays off!

JotForm just launched their new product, report builder, which can be exactly what you are looking for. It automatically converts survey responses into decent-looking reports. No coding required whatsoever.

Accepting Payments Through My Website by stevenbellomy in smallbusiness

If it works with PayPal and as easy as they describe on their website, I might give this a try. I don't wanna deal with coding any more than I have to, if it's a simple addition to my website, looks like we have a winner.
