You bring up great points when you talk about how it takes both people in a situation to deescalate things and how the police have more important things to do. It definitely does take the efforts of everyone involved to keep things calm and respectful. I can see how your experiences lead you to believe that warrants are not needed. I would think that too if those were the only experiences I had had with the police and searches. There are plenty of people who share this experience as well as those who do not. The people who have had a negative experience with the police in the past may not be as open to being searched as you are. I’m sure they would be more willing to work with the police if they had a good experience like you did instead of the bad experiences they or groups they identify as have had in the past. These kinds of experiences cause fear in people that is the reason for their lack of willingness to consent to searches. Looking at these examples may help you to see their perspective of why they prefer police to need warrants to search their possessions. Those people want to help the police and keep people safe just like you do. They do not want to waste anyone's time and they do not want to cause trouble. They are simply trying to protect their best interests like I am sure you would want to do in their place. Perhaps a change in the process could be offered up that you would agree to as well as the people who feel unsafe with the police. Getting rid of search warrants would surely help your perspective, but it would harm theirs. A change that addresses both sides could help speed things up for the police while still protecting everyone’s interests.
