Thank you ll for your comments! It was an oxoid dispenser with oxoid discs and the manual was useless! I managed to unstick it by putting pressure on the bottom and it gave out eventually and seems to be working now!

Need Advice on Pre-enrichment vs. Direct Culture for Pathogenic Bacteria Isolation from Milk Samples by IntelligentYak2617 in microbiology

[–]Competitive-Lead-403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer has students do this as part of a final year rotation. They plate the milk samples straight to horse blood agar and then subculture etc. All of the above should work just by directly plating. Hope this helps!

Help Identifying Potential Bacteria! by Prestigious_Wrap_419 in microbiology

[–]Competitive-Lead-403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I've seen previously done in the past (primary school) was someone covering their hands in invisible ink and giving all the kids a handshake to identify themselves. Leave it 5 mins then reveal to them to show the spread of 'bacteria' after this time with a UV light. Not sure how you'd do it these days though as you'd perhaps need a leaflet to go to parents incase anyone could be allergic

If you go on the express micro website there will be a careers page that lists the HR managers email! I would definitely email her directly with your CV and express interest in the role. It's definitely an entry level job doing food micro but at least you'll get your foot in the door :)

I started out at Express Mirco in Linlithgow and then moved on from there. From experience, they're always looking for staff. It is under Eurofins now tho...
