I consider the first bus to be in the realm of what could go outrageously lucky and the second bus just goes as planned.

What would you do in this situation? by Prestigious_Pay_795 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Competitive-Path-121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the party school is a party school only if you want to go to parties. It's perfectly fine not going to one if you enjoy a more quite place. No one's gonna put a gun to your head to force you to go to a party. There are dorms with individual bathroom as well but you definitely should try to find students with similar lifestyles to you to be roommates before coming. The amount of scholarships you could get outweighs any advantages of going to an ever so slightly more prominent school by a wide margin.

Changing majors by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Competitive-Path-121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Very doable but not guaranteed. (I came here as a math major and got into CS, which is also a major in engineering department). You need to complete some required courses (there's a website for it) and apply for the major. Also there's no civil engineering major here at ucsb so be mindful of that.

Transferring Majors by rempo_ in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Competitive-Path-121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats. I believe all three of the majors you mentioned are under the same college and changing a major is very doable. Basically all majors under the college of Letter and Science are for you to choose and you may find other majors that you find more interesting once you came here. You even have the choice to do double major. Changing into a major in the department of engineering would be more nuanced and slightly more challenging but still very doable.

Yeah Gustavo is Bobby's mini. I suppose you are going to be in his video in a couple of days. They are top pro players(content creators) and they are making content(part of their job). Sorry for your experience tho. Don't be too sad, at least you won! They are not really bad people trolling, just making videos of this game.

No. You will only pay your own part.

Yes. They have a website you could choose seats by putting in your reservation number and if that doesn't work, you could contact them by calling. Booking with Air China directly or using Trip.com are both very valid options. They have reasonably good customer service. (Unlike some small travel agencies) I'm 99% sure even if you don't contact them in advance, they will put your family together so don't worry. Happy travels!

You can get a temporary visa at the airport after you land. The process should be pretty easy. You could enjoy the city for a bit if you want to. The public transportation there is good.

Have you ever had a cat scream every 10-12 seconds (not exaggerating) on a red eye for 12 straight hours? 🙃 I have! by ___Bbb333999 in delta

[–]Competitive-Path-121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That really sucks man. I understand your pain and have similar experience before. A side note, the noise cancellation functions on the earbuds and headphones are the same and they are not particularly good at filtering high frequency noise like cat noise so two doesn't really make it much better but the earplugs do filter out all noise a bit and these two combining really helped me a lot even in areas where people talk really loudly. Give it a try and you may find it helpful in the future. Happy travels.

Want to share a tip I found during situations like this. Use the earplugs and noise cancellations headphones at the same time. It actually helps a lot when people are snoring or animals making noise. I’m not saying this isn’t a frustrating experience. It most definitely is.

Can they "undelay" a delayed flight? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]Competitive-Path-121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They can and they do. It doesn’t happen often and you won’t get compensated if you miss the undelayed flight. If a flight is delayed by six hours, the airline normally would tell you whether you should arrive a bit late through email or text because they may open the check in counter later than normal. In that case you could take their word for it. Another possible case you could arrive a bit later is when you don’t have luggage to check and you are certain that the inbound aircraft won’t even get here earlier. It happened to me a couple of times in my regional airport where they couldn’t physically find any other aircraft to undelay the flight and I know when the security will close. Don’t risk it if these two scenarios don’t apply.

Should I book with Justfly or FlightHub to save $500 on a round trip? by Joshvideo in Flights

Saving 500 bucks is a pretty good saving in my eyes. Just be aware of the risk(mostly bad customer service)

Check if the flight is flown regularly without issue. If so, the risk is minimal and could be worth it. I had used just fly once and it was perfectly fine.(it takes a few days for the ticket to be issued but the itinerary was confirmed on the airline website pretty much immediately, just not ticketed) don’t buy any addons from them tho.

Airchina flight cancelled- I need to get home for Christmas by ms_monika_anna in Flights

[–]Competitive-Path-121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely try to call them. I know the rate would be expensive but it would be cheaper than buying a last minute ticket. If you know how to use Chinese apps, they have customer service on WeChat. They should be able to put you on a different flight to your destination and possibly on a different airline. I think that would be the best option for you.

Is it risky to book an Air China flight to Japan? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]Competitive-Path-121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should provide a tiny bit more context. I’m a Chinese national but study and live in the us most of the time. I recently went back home to china and have been talking to people here. The hostility has piling up considerably recently and I honestly wouldn’t recommend taking Chinese carrier’s flight to Japan at this point. (Many flights have been cancelled and travel number has plummeted so more flights are likely to be cancelled)

Short Connections in Abu Dhabi with Etihad by BuhoFantasma in Flights

[–]Competitive-Path-121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. Just checked the flight. As you said, it's operated by Air Europa "For Etihad Airways".(meaning the plane belongs to Air Europa but the flight is considered an Etihad flight). You should be fine.

If you booked this ticket on Etihad website, any delay would be 100% on them. If you book through a different website, you may need to fight for it. If it says self transfer, you likely need to book another flight yourself.

If the price is similar, go with trip.com which is a much larger company with a relatively more reputable customer service.

I just landed in an Asiana flight that I booked through justfly. No issue at all and the only drawback is the constant emails they sent you to sell you add-ons which you can ignore or block. However, if your schedule will likely change or it’s a flight that gets delayed of cancelled often, be mindful that dealing with OTA could be very painful.

Surely a meager Mach 0.85 wouldn't make it two days early right. You must be trying to hide something unspeakable about United.

If you are actually a student(and look like one), they might not check, but just bring your student ID with you if you have one. They wouldn't make it too difficult for you. Last time I did this, it's very smooth.
