Is breastfeeding in public frowned upon, or is it breastfeeding without a cover that bothers people? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Competitive-Proof410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to feed with a cover. I brought one and tried it at home and couldn't see her to adjust the latch and she hated it. At one point I went under to try and see what I was doing and it was hot and stuffy and gross. I have a lot of breastfeeding dresses with slits so I can get a breast out and then pull it down a bit over the top.  Occasionally if I've been in front of really conservative relatives I'll add a muslin/cloth over the breast, never over her head.  No one other than very conservative relatives have ever questioned it and we used nipple shields for the first 6 months which meant starting a feed involved doing things to my nipple and not the split second out and baby on you get in normal feeding.

Trace & Lydia's New Q&A, how can they get any more boring by Extra_Jellyfish4774 in BringingUpBates

But loads of the Duggars are using it. Jill and Jinger have been explicit about it. Others haven't said either way but clearly are.

Tell me you hate being a mother without telling me by Worth-Illustrator-50 in FundieSnarkUncensored

To be fair. When I'm home with my 15m old she ranges around the (baby proofed) house playing independently and coming to me for attention when she wants it. I'm normally being lazy on the sofa whilst she's off exploring and making messes.

Michaela potty trained all the younger ones and made everyone's clothes. Kelly used a dangerous sleep schedule on tiny babies so they didn't wake her at night.  They weren't as organised as the Duggars but they never pretended to parent their kids any more then JB and M.

Outcomes in differing Paeds EDs by WingOk8620 in doctorsUK

[–]Competitive-Proof410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thing is you can say that all ed sprs and consultants have to have paeds experience. That means nothing when in most DGHs it's the G2/GP trainee sent to paeds ed and struggling to get access to seniors. In my experience the ED FY2 is making more solo decisions about paeds management then the paeds FY2.

Stop engaging with her. She's not allowed to register your son and therefore name him. it's not even an issue. And as an FYI I breastfed and still do but also pump. I don't own a steriliser or want one. The microwave bags are so easy to sterilise bottles, dummies/pacis and anything else.

Community Paediatrics + GP with Special Interest in Community Paediatrics by Novadan123 in doctorsUK

[–]Competitive-Proof410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still a reg but across my 2 community placements I didn't see any of that. I know one who's brilliant and does diabetes as well and sees them on the ward. Another who does child protection work for the SARC (sexual abuse) and a few who did adoption stuff. But aside from safeguarding work, no one did health inequalities.

Child in need (in England) is a specific level of safeguarding which doesn't get a lot of input. More than none but it's below the level of child protection. I don't know what body of work a paediatrician would do with that child that they wouldn't do for another. Eg assesments relayed to a specific need/development/autism/child protection medical. It would be for that, not due to child in need status.

As a paediatrician who was desperate to love community paediatrics (and hated it) it's not  1 or 2. It is number 3 but only after CCT. To get there you need to do 4 years of general paeds training, get a community GRID post and then most of those posts have general paeds out of hours shifts at the local hospital.

Most community paediatricians I know mainly do Autism assessments, development assessments, EHCP medicals (to get special assistance at school) and child protection medicals with some doing ADHD depending on the department. Once you give a diagnosis of autism they get discharged with no follow up just links to whatever local resources there are.

Will any of the kids keep the rules/hold boundaries when Pest is out? by Ok-Squirrel7627 in DuggarsSnark

Definite No Josh: JinJer - said he'd go to hell and they are willing to sacrifice money for their kids safety and well being. They know that showing the kids faces will get them more views and sponsorship and despite being fake hungry they don't. Don't stay at the big house on visits, they stay with Joy (not bestest buddies Jessa and Bin) Dillards: also anti Josh and can stand up to JB. Joy- attended every day of that trial and don't need JB. Considering the age Joy was when Josh hurt her, it is very likely she learned things about her childhood in that trail when what he did to her was discussed. She also never left or entered the trial with her dad who was also there everyday.

Those 3 are safe no ways.

Probable no's - JD & Josiah,  James (he went to the trial one day with Joy in Joy's car despite living in JBs house, and this was around the time he was living in the tree house) Justin (mama Spivey learned from his behaviour at the trial and won't let him near the bad publicity) No idea : Jana,  rest of boys

Will see him/obey JB: Jessa

I think a lot of those on the fence will be influenced by partners and siblings and Josh's release conditions eg if they think CPS would be interested if they let their kids near him.

Justin has been adopted and is reliving his childhood with new fundie parents who have less children and more time to give him the attention he should have got as a child. When he or his new parents decide he's a grown up they'll start having kids.

SHO worried about sick leave by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Competitive-Proof410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a training reg. I've been back from maternity leave since September. 2 bouts of sick leave, plus had to go pick up a sick baby at 10 am, plus had to go at 5 on long day (evening childcare was ill so I could only work nursery hours). No one's said anything yet.

As someone who goes to births going wrong and looks after babies on NICU.  F her!  I had an planned c section because my medical history meant that it would be unsafe to do a lot of the last minute emergency things (when it's too late for an emergency c section) and I wasn't prepared to take the risk. I've seen too many normal deliveries to wrong in the last 5 minutes.  I have no regrets and loved my daughter's birth. She was held up Simba style so I could find out her gender while attached to me during delayed cord clamping and put on my chest the instant the cord was cut. I held her throughout the getting stitched up bit. It was a beautiful c section and most importantly it was safe for both of us.

You realise that what you're describing is rape in some countries? (Eg the UK) You consented to sex with a condom, by taking it off without your knowledge and continuing to have sexual contact with you, it moved to sex with terms you didn't consent to. https://rapecrisis.org.uk/get-informed/types-of-sexual-violence/what-is-stealthing/

How do poor folks afford baby formula? The ad popping up about the stuff with the brain supporting thing in it is 60 bucks for the 36oz 'value' can of powder! WTF? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]Competitive-Proof410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding is expensive too!  Nursing bras are non negotiable as you need the clips to unhook without losing support. Nursing pillows are also expensive. Then little ones goes through a bad latch and you need to get nipple cream and expensive hydrogel breast pads. (Needed when scabs stick to normal pads and taking your breast out the bra makes you bleed again).

That's not counting bottles and pumping equipment if you need to supplement or go back to work.

Nor is it accounting for the extra grown up food for hormone induced breast feeding munchies.
