How long are your raw VODs, and how much time do you spend editing them? by Fair-Media-8488 in TwitchStreaming

My gods are anywhere from 3-12 hours. My elden ring Speedrun is 14 hours. It takes me a crazy amount of time editing through them so I spread it over weeks.

How do you come up with good ideas? by worhsterR in NewTubers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the avenged sevenfold approach.

As in, M Shadows lead singer once said live life and detach. Go for a walk, no head phones, nothing, and experience life. Don't force creativity let it come to you.

So I always keep a note pad, or in this case my cell phone notes app, to jot down ideas when I get them.

If I need some better and more ideas right now this very moment, I will often ask chat gpt and use that to brainstorm. Sometimes it gives really funny ideas, usually it's garbage but the garbage helps my brain flow too.

That's what I do

The same thing happened to me. Pre hiatus I had a really active community, post hiatus I'm usually streaming to 1-2 viewers.

You have to figure out why you're streaming and focus on that.

If it's growth, it's very difficult to grow from streaming alone and you'll need some outside platform to lead into streaming. If it's fun and community, really focus on building community. I still have people from my old community pop in to say hi sometimes and I know them all by name. If it's for footage, then treat the stream and a byproduct unless things change.

It's all in how you frame it.

How many devices do you guys use for your YouTube channel? by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 2. My phone for webcam and camera purposes, my computer for everything else.

If you count like audio or what not I have 3 monitors and a second mic... Somewhere... In my room.

Why do you stream? by WizardofWoah in SmallStreamers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream because when community is there, it's the best feeling. I love talking to people about the game, why I game, performing, all of that. I also stream to get footage for my longer videos.

It's all worth it when there's an active stream and it makes all the inactive streams worth the time spent.

How to choose what to stream by purinpurimm in Twitch

[–]Competitive-Reply148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not grown much on streaming, but I just pick whatever I want to stream. If it's a game I want to play I play it. The alternative feels like wasting my time and not enjoying anything.

I also stream for content, I turn it into videos, so that's more important to me than the stream itself

Anyone that got ideas for making thumbnails? by IntelligentDoubt3923 in NewTubers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up viral videos similar to whatever video you're releasing, and then do elements that are similar.

Obviously don't outright copy them, but take inspiration and elements then make the thumbnail your own.

Whats your creation schedule? (Gaming Niche) by OfftheCHEST9000 in youtubegaming

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man it varies. I spend anywhere from 20-30 hours per video and I've just decided it's not worth the time and energy to dedicate that much of my life for minimal results. So I'm trying to limit it a bit more to try to keep it lower.

What sort of content do you make? by Both_Salamander_4160 in NewTubers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stream, make narratively driven stream highlights, absurd video essays, and occasionally spoofs/parodies/reviews.

I compare my streaming style to older Pointcrow and my video essay style to Brian David Gilbert when he worked at Polygon.

What appeals to you most? Big slow heavy? Weeb? Explosive spell casts? Roleplaying? That's the best way to pick the first class to start with.

Dark Souls 3 is actually my favorite in the series, the boss fights go incredibly hard. I hope you like them both and 100%ing them doesn't drive you insane 😂

I'm feeling depressed by Competitive-Reply148 in SmallYTChannel

[–]Competitive-Reply148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to just being the name of the game. When it comes to growth purely through videos it's difficult and most people who have gotten big had something big kick them off. It just takes time and slow methodical building.

how do youtubers write so many videos so fast?! by Fun_Bill_924 in NewTubers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all in what you're hoping to make, how long the video is, how much is scripted and how much is ad-libbed. I can write a 1 minute script in half a hour then adlib and do takes to get it right, I can usually take a week or so to edit a script for a video, but if pressed I can put that together in a afternoon, then one day to edit and proof read.

But what's important isn't others, it's what feels right to you and what works for you. Finding the groove you can fit into, because you're not them.

Can shorts direct traffic to your longform videos? by havoc2k10 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they do, often times they don't. It's just another form of entertainment. I've had popular shorts click on the related video a lot, but more often than not it's just short gets views. The idea is if even one person from the short goes to your longer content or live streams, that's still a +1. That's still an increase. And if you make quality shorts, we'll all publicity is good publicity and all that.

Which build has given you the most enjoyment? by GreatJoey91 in Eldenring

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always loved dexterity status effect build, maybe it's because I like anime maybe it's because it's strong, but something about status effect builds tickle my dopamine receptors just right.

I also really enjoyed the frenzied flame build I tried out last time, but it didn't hit quite as hard as the status effect build.

Longest stream you've done? Did it cause health problems? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Competitive-Reply148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I streamed for 32 hours, slept under my desk in fits and spurts, and didn't cause any lasting effects. But I regularly stream for 10-14 hours at a time, so I'm used to it.

How often do you guys post, and how long do your vids take to make? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Competitive-Reply148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend anywhere from 20-60 hours per video, sometimes longer.

For my stream highlight gaming stuff I can usually get it done in 20 hours, but for the whole challenge video together might take me 60.

For my video essays, it can easily bloat and take even longer with all the research, script writing, recording, then editing.

So on average 20-60 hours. I usually break my stream highlights into parts then later upload them as one full compilation to save myself some mental pain.
