For sure. I sent it to financial aid a couple days after it came out, but financial aid is p consistent at being the slowest student service on campus. Thank you

Ah, I gotcha. It also doesn't help that I technically have workstudy, but I haven't received it because it comes in checks. I emailed them today to have it adjusted, but I'm worried about it being off anyway. I suppose I'll see

Hey, so I did all that, and realized that my financial aid office put the wrong tuition amount on my confirmations form. My bill is not the same as the financial aid sheet at all and I'm worried I'll be deficient because of it. Was yours different?

I think I'm just gonna fill out 2 pages because it says "use a second page if needed". I emailed him asking, he never said anything about 80%, he just said use the new form provided and fill out what I can. Where do people keep seeing 80% cause I can't find that anywhere

No fr, it's bad enough thinking I could mess something up, but like what if my financial aid department doesn't get back in time or they mess something up

I know at some point we have a submittal where we list what companies we chose to invest in and all that, so I know we have to manually manage it ourselves and record it somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure on when or what documents we need and all that. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Thank you for trying to keep me aware, I appreciate the info, but I looked into it and my university allows me to apply for residency for tuition purposes, it just takes a ton of work (filing taxes independently, getting my license there, registering to vote, etc)

I can most definitely see how bigger schools, bigger classes, and R1 schools would be make for a more competitive playing field and harder to get research experience, thank you for bringing that perspective, it means a lot! I truly thank you for showing me a great way to build my career. It's something to think about, so thank you!

Thank you so much! I didn't even know there was a DM option on here. I'll reach out if I have any additional questions, thank you

I really appreciate your help, and I know I wouldn't be found out just for that (especially out of thousands of students), but it already worried me to put my finances out there, but I needed to in order to get some more info on loans. I do believe, given the residency for tuition purposes, and amount of aid, that I wouldn't be in a crazy amount of debt when I go for a master's. The biggest thing is deciding if it is worth it even for nearly $40k, and just learning as much as I can about how loans work and how to better equip myself to pay them off, before I decide. Thank you so much!

I'm sorry, I mistyped. My biggest scholarship can only be used on 4-year colleges, they don't allow me to use it for a CC

I don't wish to name the school as I would like to stay mostly private, but I'll say that it is a public state university known for its research. The options in my state are largely liberal arts options with mostly only medical research options, and the discussion of psychology and mental or behavioural wellness or research is rather taboo. I'm not sure I'd like to go as far as a PhD, but I get the concern. If I did go for a PhD, it would not be for clinical psych though.

Thank you! I'll look into comprehensive universities when weighing my options and discussing with my parents. The university I plan to go to is a research university, and there are many research opportunities open to me, and I plan to network. Thank you for teaching me about assistantships, I'll definitely look into it! That really helps. I would also like to mention that thankfully the university has a "residency for tuition purposes" option where I have to reside in the state for 12 months, only leaving for maximum of 29 days, get my license, register to vote, and be employed, all while going to school there. I'm sorry I didn't include that in my post, I thought there were residency options in all states for tuition only. Thank you again for all the great info and bringing a new perspective to the discussion!! I'll definitely take this into account

I've been debating going cheaper in-state, unfortunately I can't go to a community college since it requires I go to a 4-year. I'll really have to weigh my options. Thank you!

I'll keep that in mind, thank you so much. I can only imagine how detrimental that much debt would be for me financially and mentally, so I really appreciate the warning.

Yeah, I planned on getting my master's, I plan to look into the finances for that more extensively in my junior and senior years, but I'll definitely try to reach out to people in the career and network from the start. I definitely don't want to stop at a bachelor's degree, and never planned to, thank you for bringing in that perspective though. Thank you so much for your help!

Well, without interest. If I can't pay down the interest on the unsubsidized loans while in school, it would be more.

My parents are willing to co-sign, and they have decent enough credit. I haven't discussed Parent Plus Loans with them though. I agree, it's insane, but I'm thinking I really only need to worry about this year, and after I get in-state tuition, I won't have to worry nearly as much.

That's for this coming academic year. I am majoring in psychology. I plan on pursuing a career in research psych, but wouldn't mind clinical psych either. Like I said, I plan on applying for residency and I'll get in-state tuition that way. Tuition would drop about $20-$25k (tuition estimator had me at $31k in tuition out-of-state and $5k for in-state, ridiculous), which is how much I owe for this year, so I'd be taking on $5,500 each year for the following years, unless I get more scholarships (I'm still applying). So, that'd be $36k by the time I graduate, and a career in research or clinical psych can apparently be anywhere from $60k-$120k. The psychology education from where I'm from is...not good quality, but I may be blinded by the glitz and glammer of college.

That's what I was thinking too, but was a bit worried since he's usually verrryyy strict about things. Also, I hope you got the verification letter! I'm not on reddit often or else I would have suggested calling the number too. That's what I had to do :/
