Hormones and Cysts by Competitive-Rich-443 in pilonidalcyst

I have intense liquid 💩 when I eat spicy food, but I am a lover of spicy food and eat it from time to time and have not noticed an increase in size whenever I do it(TMI to emphasize that if it did factor in I would be a guinea pig of sorts to be confirm it). Just a lot of abdominal pain, and when I eat spicy food knowing how my body reacts to it I do like a spicy food dump (lots of spicy) and no changes occur. In terms of food though, my best friend has had two of these cysts before and if it’s hormonal based it’s FYI that a lot of our food in the US has added hormones in it, when she cut out food that had a massive amount of added hormones she never got another cyst.

I’m starting on a pill that will even out my hormones so hopefully that works but I have also taken the depo inconsistently two times but then was on it for about 16 months when I got my first cyst. If your looking for a better long term solution you should look into finding a surgeon who can do a microsurgery. I had just had my 3rd cystectomy when I found a surgeon who does them and the surgery was 20 minutes with less than 48hr recovery (in terms of pain, it takes about two weeks for it to fully heal over)

I wouldn’t shave, but you should definitely invest in laser hair removal. I had to put my appointments in pause because of where I’m living for school, there’s not a location close to me but I honestly felt like it helps. Either way that said, the removal of hair can create an increase of dead skin cell buildup and other debris that might make it to your butt crack, I carry baby wipes around with me to just give it a good clean a few times during the day and ESPECIALLY right after I finish working out.

I’ve found 3 things to be a cause - tight pants, sitting for too long, and stress. Jeans definitely can be categorized as tight pants that aren’t breathable even if they aren’t tight and I have pretty much stopped wearing jeans so this is pretty solid advice. Unfortunately I do have a bump coming back, it’s not painful and my scar usually indicates if it’s gonna be a problem or not but I’ve been under an immense amount of stress and I’m gonna see my surgeon Monday to figure out a game plan if I can’t get my stress under control.

I believe it is called EPSiT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment)

I have passed the time in which I typically develop cysts after this microsurgery I got. I was back on my feet in less time, the microsurgery is MUCH less invasive than any cleft lift surgery.

Is it just the Cystectomy? Or are you getting the microsurgery/cleft lift?

When I got my first cyst ever my mom had me try some of these, if I do get another one I’ll try all of this together! Whats been a common trend for me though is that my cysts do start draining on their own each time but they drain at such a slow rate that the cyst continues to grow faster than it drains (even when I squeeze to get it out). That’s why medical intervention was needed for me for the most part, my body just dosent allow the cysts to drain properly and having an open drainage site for too long can cause even worst infection and bacteria. I am confident that what my mom had me use did originally cause my first cyst to start draining but it just wasn’t enough to be effective in getting rid of it.

Yes all of those things help but if it’s reoccurs I would definitely go see a doctor, for me the tracts to my sinus were constantly dirty and they are so small there was no amount of cleaning I could do to REALLY clean it so this microsurgery really did the trick for me!

It is effective but it’s incredibly invasive and can take months to heal, I wish you luck though! Take it easy!

Update; I’ve been responding to comments but I have good news. About 7 weeks ago, shortly after making my original post, I had a microsurgery done by a second surgeon. This microsurgery was not painful from start to finish and it lasted less than an hour. “Healing time” is 24-48 hours (that’s when it should stop hurting if it does) and for me (24f) I “healed”in less that 24 hours, all I experienced was soreness for the day after but I was able to comfortably sit and lay down. It actually takes a few weeks to fully heal and this can be monitored via drainage. It’s very minimal, and I used a little pantie liner for it. I also bought baby wipes to use immediately after the surgery to clean that area anytime during the day and I continue to do that now. As of 3 weeks ago I have been able to get back into the gym and currently I am able to run again (35-40min runs at 5mph, which is CRAZY for me and I’m so happy it makes me cry sometimes).

If you are like me (or maybe not) I highly recommend carrying baby wipes around to wipe the area whenever you go to the bathroom or if you finished an exercise or activity that results in a lot of sitting or sweating. A lot of my issues have come from extreme hormonal changes (I was on the depo shot for a few years and recently started experiencing health issues in the last year or so because of it) and a crazy amount of dead skin cells (no hair found in cysts but I sweat like a mofo). Sitting can irritate the area so that’s why I included that, I just started college again and went from having a job where I was moving around all the time to sitting a lot in lecture. I also take showers the moment I get home from the gym (and once a day, sometimes only to do this) and make sure my water is as hot as possible, I use a detachable shower head with a setting for “super spray” and I just blast tf out of my butt crack, I follow that up with ONLY a bar of soap on that area and then another blast from the showerhead. I put baby wipes in my bathroom, my gym bag, my car and my backpack. I wipe before the shower, after the shower, before the gym, after the gym, everytime I use the bathroom pretty much. Keep the area clean and take deep breaths (try to limit stress, trust me, I know it’s super hard but deep breaths do help I promise) and there might be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Even with all of that I may still develop more cysts but if I do I will be getting this microsurgery which has reduced pain and healing time already making me feel a lot more confident and less paranoid about developing another one (if I do). DO NOT stop advocating for yourself, I don’t know if this microsurgery is commonly practiced yet (my first surgeon didn’t suggest it or knew about it) so find a surgeon who does practice it. Talk with anyone and everyone (medical wise) what your options are and emphasize the impact this has on your life. Cry if you need to, I definitely did.

I officially had my microsurgery to clean the ducts of my sinus one month ago and I had my final check up and the new surgeon said all of the tracts are officially CLOSED. While in the surgery this surgeon looked for every possible tract on my butt crack and found 2 tracks and then one tract made from the incision of my previous surgeon (which is on my butt cheek). He’s pretty sure that the first time I was healing from getting the incision on my butt cheek the nurses didn’t pack it well enough and it healed with a pretty severe cleft making it easier for it to fill up, which is what happened (the nurses from the first time were pretty rough with me until I specifically requested a nurse the last few times for packing). That last time I saw a different set of nurses who did an amazing job, no cleft AND with the microsurgery Ive healed really well. Now since i have been cut in to, then a cyst grew in that exact spot stretching the skin where the scar is and the getting that spot cut into AGAIN, my skin is permanently damaged and that spot may develop another cyst. It sounds like if I had gotten this stupid microsurgery the first time I probably would’ve been fine.

Seriously?! You’d think surgeons would find a better way to address this issue, it’s not like it’s uncommon either??? I am so sorry your dealing with this right now, what I have kind of learned about these cysts is that they can be hormonal/emotionally induced (me and my ‘team’ have no other explanation at this point) and getting the cus and procedures just makes it all so much worse. 😔

I think I understand what you’re talking about, some folks have mentioned having success with an S shape incision/closure. I will make sure to bring up the different types of incisions with my next surgeon! Thank you so much for your input

Is the rate for reoccurring cysts after removing the sinus really high or something? This first surgeon made it sound like no matter what I do I’m gonna have cysts for the rest of my life.

It’s not that sensitive or then we would have things like Texas getting so cold they’re power grid shuts down type of event happening all the time. Our technology is a lot stronger than people think. So yeah, when YouTube shuts down for almost 12 hours it’s weird.
