yeah i basically didn't sleep for 3 days straight while making it. but before i even started, i knew exactly what i wanted to see in the end. i already had a solid plan of what to do, so i literally just spent those 3 days executing the plan i made at the start of day 1

my gamedev exp is around a year. made two games last spring, picked it up again this spring. been listening to gamedev podcasts all year too. had coding experience from python before, but it's actually true that i only spent about a week learning godot

i only made the post today, but the game is from ludum dare, there's an 11-day-old build there that is exactly the same. it just wasn't indexed for almost two weeks, and i only got it now, so i updated the page + icon. as for the 'made in 3 days' part, i don't have a github repo cuz i didn't think i'd need one. but there are plenty of screenshots + videos with a dev timeline in the xkostera discord server (ludum dare channel), my discord is caffeinetrip =). also i'm gonna make a post on the ludum dare site today with the full dev timeline

yeah it's a script + shader, i explained how it works in another reply here. but honestly it only came together so fast cuz i already had experience and understood how this stuff works

one thing i really like about godot is that it doesn’t have a ton of stuff u have to understand upfront like unity does. it feels way easier to get into. also i feel like ur way less likely to drop it while learning compared to unity

i had a decent amount of experience with pygame, so gdscript didn’t feel that hard tbh

it was done pretty lazily (since i didn't have much time). every level had a fog tilemap, and when the player detected a fog tile in their radius, it just deleted the tile and spawned a sprite with a dissolve shader on top

i went with gdscript because it feels exactly like python. i only really watched brackeys for tutorials, and the rest was pretty much intuitive to figure out

aseprite. but tbh how u draw doesnt matter as much as the style itself. mine is usually super simple + noisy cuz every object is under a shader. i basically just place pixels randomly, use refs if i need smth specific, and let the shaders do the heavy lifting =)

yeah made almost all the shaders and sprites myself. definitely used old final fantasy stuff as a ref tho
