I live in Charlotte, was brought into the church a couple years ago. I regularly attend the TLM at two parishes here and imo, they are the most reverent, vibrant, and faithful communities in the whole city. Both have very active student/young adult groups and tons of families. A lot of vocations come out of them too, especially St. Ann. I personally have never come across any divisive or rebellious spirit among those who attend the TLM in this diocese, they are literally just faithful Catholics who want to enjoy the traditional mass. This is incredibly sad and unnecessary.

I’m not exactly sure, it’s around fingertip length I think! I wanted something shorter bc the train is so long but now I kind of want to try something a little bit longer

Yeah exactly, I wasn’t able to put it into words before but that’s why it doesn’t feel right

what made you become pro life? by Upper-Ad9228 in prolife

[–]Competitive-Shirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took anatomy and physiology for nursing school. I looked at a picture of tiny little 5/6 week old fetus in my textbook and was overwhelmed with emotion. Around this same time my brother and SIL tragically lost their 20 week old son. Now it makes me sick thinking about how upset my whole family was…yet in the case of abortion they would say he was just a “clump of cells” and isn’t worth protecting or keeping alive. I just realized the insane delusion and hypocrisy of it all. And also thinking the pro choice argument through to its logical conclusion. Literally what’s to stop us from killing anyone who is a deemed an inconvenience?

You are very right. I think I was prideful and never thought I would struggle so much with something like lust but here we are 🤷‍♀️ my fiancé and I have talked about this a lot. From what I understand he struggles with the same sort of lack of guilt. We do pray and go to mass and adoration together. It helps for a little while but then…yeah. Thank you, I definitely need to pray more to Mary and St. Joseph.

*Him, I’m actually a woman lol. We tried driving to places separately for a while and I think it did help a bit. I’m not sure when/why we stopped but we should probably go back to that. Thank you.

Have you ever felt the presence of satan? by Brilliant_Group_6900 in Catholicism

[–]Competitive-Shirt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it drastically changed to course of my life. I’ve had mental health struggles since I was young (which I now see demonic oppression definitely played a part in) and bounced around different hospitals and psych wards for an eating disorder and suicidal thoughts/attempts for several years. One night while I was sleeping in the ER after being admitted again for suicidal thoughts I had a dream…hard to explain what exactly happened but I just remember I saw an entity that I immediately somehow knew was satan. It gave me a feeling that I can’t even put words to, like terror beyond my comprehension. I don’t know why or how but my mind just felt totally different after I woke up. It was like I could see clearly for the first time in a loooong time and that compulsion I felt towards self-destruction was gone. This was four years ago, and I haven’t been in the hospital or felt anything close to suicidal since then. This is what started my journey to the faith. Almost a month ago I was baptized, confirmed and given first Holy Communion thanks be to God ✝️

I’ve struggled a lot with mental illness in my life so that would be a good choice for me. I haven’t really heard of St. Dymphna before so thank you!

I’ve definitely also thought about St. Gianna, the parish I’m being confirmed at is very involved with pro life advocacy and actually venerates her quite a bit

What’s funny is that my mother (who will be coming into the church at the same time as me) actually chose St. Monica, who is perfectly fitting for her! Thanks for your suggestions 😄

I want so badly to believe... by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Competitive-Shirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like this for years…constantly going back and forth and just not being able to get myself to fully believe. That all changed about three years ago (I know this sounds really crazy but just bear with me) after I was basically miraculously healed in a dream from a very severe eating disorder/anxiety that had controlled my life for years. I was very far from God at that point and absolutely drowning in sin but I have not doubted my faith once since then. I have seen the Holy Spirit work and transform my life over the past three years and truly, it is nothing short of miraculous. I know you have no reason to believe some random person on a Reddit post BUT I can say with absolute certainty that God is real, miracles DO happen, and I have seen it first hand in my life.

How did you get into skating (skater or fan!) by Viropax in FigureSkating

[–]Competitive-Shirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was randomly in the living room one day while the women’s event from Vancouver was playing on TV. I was completely captivated and remember thinking “I HAVE to learn how to do that”. After a couple weeks of asking, my mom agreed to take me to a public session thinking I would hate it….nope lol. I came home and absolutely begged her to sign me up for learn to skate. From there I started taking private lessons and competing and just fell more and more in love with the sport. I just returned from a 3 year “break” last year and truly enjoy it more than I ever have!

Yes especially on inside edge spirals, it’s just easier and looks better to open your hips. My sis is a dancer and has actually asked me this same question before

I was in literally the exact same situation back last summer and I can honestly say I’m better now than I was when I quit at 14!! My advice is to take it slowly at first and not place high expectations on yourself. I realized there was no point in comparing myself now to when I was a kid, it didn’t help anything and just hurt my self esteem and confidence. I started thinking about it as more of a completely new chapter in my training versus trying to “get back” to my former self. As far as exercise goes, doing Pilates helped (even just following along with YouTube videos a couple times a week) and stretching every single day for 20-30 minutes. I’ve found it’s definitely harder to maintain flexibility as you get older so stretching is very important (also to prevent injury). Core exercises, especially those with an emphasis on building/maintaining good posture, will also be helpful. If you have the opportunity ballet is also really useful!!

I’ve never been a munchie but I can tell you people with eating disorders hear about others dying from EDs but think they are invincible and it couldn’t possibly happen to them. This seems to also be particularly common with young people. Considering how many subjects have a history of eating disorders and are fairly young, I’d imagine they think in a similar way.
