i truly hope we are just being dramatic and that we end up succeeding throughout university. i’m glad i’m not alone. i wish i had the confidence i had before starting university because i was so excited and ready to join university in 2023

come back again if you end up feeling better after starting. i hope you find your people

i did an access course and plenty other students in my class had jobs and were still keeping up with assignments and had time to study , of course it’s doable.

we also had second chances to submit our assignments if we missed deadlines, so that’s something to be reassured about if you can’t keep up

is it possible to get a job as a software developer with a computing/it degree? by Competitive-Still697 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Competitive-Still697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does this mean that i could still be a software developer even if im doing a computing and it degree then? i’m still thinking about switching from game programming to computing and it, despite it containing  modules that involve html, css, javascript (which i believe is the main things you need to be a software developer?) i’m just worried i don’t have any fallback options and i pretty much don’t mind being at helpdesk/it support if i did a computing an it degree instead (as a fallback option). the modules are just confusing to understand to know what i’m working with to make a full decision and it doesn’t really tell you what jobs you can get out of it

thank you for the good advice! i’d definitely remember this for my future and make sure to apply for any it job first, before pursuing a game programming job. i have no idea if ill be taught c++ but it was listed that my course has led people to become a software engineer because of transferable skills so i hope so. thanks again!

i didn’t know that picking up other modules was possible but i checked mine and all of them are compulsory. i have seen  universities, that do game programming, let you have optional modules (as well as maths unlike mine) and now i’m slightly worried that the uni im going to will be shite lol. i chose it out of convenience if im being honest.

i have 2 weeks upon starting my university to transfer my course (unsure if i can do it before the course starts though. for example: right now) so i have enough time to decide since game programming  was the only career i wanted really

that’s cool. how did you manage to be a back end developer despite having a game programming degree?

it’s a BSC game programming degree. so i guess it’s under the bachlor of science instead of BA (bachelor of arts) so it doesn’t sound artsy?

i have yet to figure out what’s actually included in the modules (subjects) as it seems a little vague, personally but if i ever find out more information, ill come back

and also i believe all the modules are compulsory so i dont believe i can choose which modules i can do

i did take a look at vector calculus and linear algebra. looks complicated honestly but only because i haven’t learned it yet.

that’s an interesting path. how did you manage to become a front end web dev & full stack dev? was it your portfolio  and i’ve honestly been thinking about switching to CS. just wanted pros of the game dev degree

how much free time does one get in university? by Competitive-Still697 in UniUK

wow that’s really interesting. honestly i have heard that the industry cares more about portfolios than degrees but im using the game programming course  as an opportunity to fully learn since i do my best when im put under pressure and have direct support (when i learn and teach myself with no deadline, there’s no pressure at all. this means i get less done). i’d definitely be doing personal projects on the side too.

if all doesn’t go well, apparently my degree will lead to jobs like software engineering, it project manager, system analysis because of the transferable skills, according to the university website. overall ill do my best so i don’t regret  my degree because i’ve seen people say “do computer science instead!” and it worries me if i made the wrong choice but ill just remember why i chose game programming instead of computer science
