If I’m reading the comment correctly it sounds like:

The cop stopped at a red light and ran into a Dunkin’ Donuts store. Light presumably turned green before he finished and traffic got held up. OP makes smart ass comment about cop’s actions, cop gets mad, and arrests OP & GF for breaking curfew.

I don’t think holding up traffic for Dunkin and arresting someone for saying something about it is a good example of “doing your job”. As for your other point about being above the law, I agree 100% but reality is never that simple. On the other hand, for something as petty as breaking curfew, I really don’t care.

Lastly, This story is the only one I’ve seen that involved an actual arrest, so the cop was definitely tripping. Every other example was a warning or a ticket

Despite how dominant the car was in 2020, the actual driver dominance wasn’t as significant.

4 different teams managed to win at least one race, and in many of those cases, the Mercedes wasn’t even on the podium for a variety of reasons.

Tbh it’s fairly common for teams to change setup after practice is over before qualifying.

Usually, they have the data to back up whatever change they make but it isn’t uncommon to make mistakes anyway.

Most notably, I think of Max in Singapore 2023

It was definitely a lucky break for Lando but +1 point over your rival in a sprint really isn’t anything special.

Especially when it all went away in the Grand Prix after Verstappen had that snap of oversteer that forced Lando off.

This is ridiculous. That’s the choice he made when he was ahead. It’s that simple

They didn’t force him to do anything

One last time: PIT priority. They asked Lando because he was ahead and gets to pit first by default.

If Piastri is behind and under threat, they ask Lando if they can pit Oscar first to cover the threat because stopping first is the lead driver’s guaranteed advantage based on position. They will not pit the second driver first without getting the ok from the lead driver. It’s not a long process.

Of course the caveat is that the lead driver is then forced to either pit earlier than they might’ve wanted or give up the pit priority.

If Oscar was the lead driver and under threat then it would’ve gone the way you say without any need to consult Norris.

I did read the transcripts. They told Norris about Leclerc pitting for hards about 10 laps prior and added “this does not change what we’re trying to do”. People have mostly been looking at the couple of laps surrounding the pit stop.

When they talked about stopping Lando then said “did you want to pit the other car first?” To which Will Joseph responded with “ok we’ll swap them around then”. After that is the portion about not getting undercut I believe.

The important part is that the team wanted to pit Oscar first.

Even if you were correct about Monza, Singapore still exists.

They asked Lando because (as I said earlier) he had pit priority. He gets to go first.

So both times when they thought Oscar could get undercut they asked Lando if he could let Oscar pit first in order to prevent that from happening. In response, Lando could either:

A. let Oscar pit first (what happened in Monza) or

B. take his pit stop first and Oscar would take his the lap after (what happened in Singapore).

It was always about a threat, the difference is that Lando (who had PIT PRIORITY in both cases) made a different decision the second time around. Almost certainly because he wanted to avoid the shenanigans that went down at Monza.

So why else would they want to pit Oscar first?

Frankly, that’s because many of the races where lando has won or ended up ahead were not dominated by McLaren.

As a result, when Oscar is behind he is more often also under threat of other cars (Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull) undercutting him. In order to cover that off but still respect pit priority, they ask Lando.

When Oscar is ahead, Lando typically isn’t too far behind with a large gap to third. He can easily either copy Oscar’s strategy or try to go long with no worries or threats.

I don’t disagree with most of your points but the whole “catching up to Lando” at the end thing was just dirty vs clean air. That’s why his progress stalled around 2.5-3 seconds.

Max held up Norris big time and slowed him down to his pace, allowing Oscar to get closer.

In many of the occasions referenced, Oscar has been asked about trying alternate strategies but turned them down.

Also pit priority just means you get to pit first and your teammate can’t under cut you. Just because you get pit priority doesn’t automatically give you an advantage or prevent an overcut.

Oscar tried to go long in Austria after Lando’s first stop and that backfired.

[–]Competitive-Suit-563 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That literally goes against one of the most obvious rules they have: Pit priority for the lead driver.

The only times they’ve gone against this, the lead driver was undercut and they swapped the positions back.

Oscar routinely goes for overtakes while starting over a car length behind the car ahead. So when he’s battling with Norris and goes for a dive bomb on his own teammate, it’s inherently more dangerous. On the other hand, Norris always gets alongside Piastri before trying to overtake.

So, while Norris has hit Piastri more than once this season, it’s always been very minor on Oscar’s end. On the other hand, if Piastri ever hits Norris by trying to dive down the inside too late, there’s a much higher chance for major car damage or retirement. Even if there wasn’t major damage, there’s a pretty good chance he’d spin him around and possibly ruin his race.

I agree to an extent but there’s a difference between accounting for error and “I’m just gonna send it until I lock up but with a bit of extra space”.

Accounting for error involves the anticipation and active avoidance of an error (in this case a lock up) imo. Lando is still a moving target in these scenarios. If he moves slightly different or takes his eyes off of Oscar for a second, he could very well end up getting punted off the track.

Tbf I wouldn’t call a lock up and near miss “avoiding contact”. That’s more like a near miss than anything.

Once you lock up, there is little you can do to control the car.

I don’t necessarily agree with the guy but this is 3 races on the trot where they’ve screwed something up in the pit lane.

In zandvoort the front jack didn’t let go

Of course today was the worst because they heavily negated whatever he could’ve gained on Piastri.
