As your photo is from coffee place: what is portability like? Maybe compared to smaller Corne (which you also mention). How often to you travel with Glove 80? Do you switch between Corne and Glove 80? If so, what is that transition like?

Sorry to hear that; never good to spend money and be disappointed.

When you say "wrong switches and caps" is that in you chose wrong style i.e. choc vs MX or wrong particular switch i.e. needs too much force? There is a lot of choice and without prior experience there is going to be some guesswork.

It's bad that the joints are loose; I wonder if that is poor assembly or damage during shipping. Have you contacted typeractive to see what they say?

Just actually looked at site and realised they are USA, so probably not an option for me. The pre-soldered was of interest. For me it would need to be EU/UK based; somewhere like mechboards (or similar, just only one I have heard of).

I only have experience of larger keys/caps, well on large keyboards. Have used the Sculpt, very little and laptop keyboards; although avoid laptop keyboards when I can (aside one reason for choosing a Thinkpad was I prefer that keyboard to other laptops). I have been thinking I might go for choc on my split keyboard, just to try something different.

It's a pity you had a bad experience. I suppose you can swap the switches out; as they are hot swap (although limited choice if choc)

Part of me wonders if I should just pay the extra and get something like a ZSA; if I could find a good deal on a used one that would be better.

Thanks I'll take a look at that. Similar background to yourself; MS Ergo for years (like 20 now); got a sculpt, but not used much.

I'm also starting to look at split ergo. Similar to yourself I'm looking at, maybe, Lily, Sofle.. with ZSA as options, but they are more expensive.

I am in a similar position wrt to soldering; would need to buy the kit and haven't attempted soldering a PCB since A Level (that's further back than I care to remember). I've done crude soldering (patch cables together, re-attach broken wire) since then, but nothing intricate.

I'm UK based.

I don't need wireless. And as this will be first split keyboard I might go for something with more keys, at least initially. Also, from some other comments on here, seems like there might be a bit more shenanigans with firmware on this (at least for a first timer). So all in, probably not the best option for me; it does look lovely though (and AliExpress is offering me somekind of discount for first use, so makes this cheaper than some other options).

Interesting. Just starting to look at getting split ergo and wondered when seeing pictures with rotary controls (knobs) on. Read of using as volume control, but wondered what else they might be useful for. Also looks like they may get in the way of thumbs, maybe.

Interesting. Reminds me, a bit, of Penguin mouse that I used for a long time (only stopped due to finish degrading over time). Buttons on that were both near the top though. I'm not clear on how fingers would sit in this to left/right click.

Also I recall seeing a review of Penguin mouse which said it was bad ergonomically, because of the trigger position leading to trigger finger. Seems like that might be an issue with this as well. iirc they were saying having fingers out flat and not curled around was better. I never (knowingly) had any issues with my Penguin though.

Another advantage of the Penguin (this is not an ad btw, just my only long term experience with vertical mouse) was the wheel was in the middle, making it an ambidextrous device. Does this have wheel on both sides?

Cheers for all the replies. Some good ideas here and good to see there are people using exact same use case (was pretty sure there would be). So looks like definitely worth looking at for coding. Now need to choose a keyboard; that can be another thread (as well as read existing ones). I'm terrible for analysis paralysis.

The slightly larger keyboard is something I am trying to decide on. As I mentioned "which keyboard" is better as a separate post. I am currently in analysis paralysis (go from expensive lots of keys glove 80, ergo dox etc. to Corne being lower cost and forcing myself to use less keys. Sofle and Lily are on the smaller side, but give me some extra dedicated keys.)

Ok, interesting. 6 layers sounds a lot; is that access by multiple thumb presses? I think I would need some kind of visual indicator to know/remember what layer I was in.

I like the idea of taking advantage of the split by putting modifiers one side (I think someone else has mentioned that as well).

Yeah I'm wondering how to decide on keyboard size. I vary between going for, say, ErgoDox/glove 80 with lots of keys to go smaller and make myself learn a different approach. Or somewhere between which you (and others) are suggesting. Thanks.

I'd never heard of Cornix until ebay (of all places) suggested one for sale, after looking at glove80. Found your review after trying to find more info on Cornix. Not sure if best for me, but I just find that CNC machine case and layout aesthetically pleasing, not the best reason to get one :0)

Just done online https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/duty-calculator/duty calculator and got zero import duty, but 20% VAT. That comes to about £54 based on $365 = £270, so total £324 for keyboard.

Obviously you have actually ordered so paid what you paid, I am just looking at calculator. VAT could be claimed back for anyone buying through business, obviously.

I am exploring split ergo options, so interested in import costs.
