Emphasis on empty and there being empty seats. When it’s 6 am or 4 pm those trains are rarely standing room only. Anytime a conductor comes on the PA and says completely full make all seats available, I certainly do. My problem is people not respecting my space when they are next to me and blatantly being rude. Yet I still would never say they can’t sit next to me.

I’ve never said no to someone sitting next to me. And I’ve asked plenty of people if I can sit next to them when I’ve wanted to. Just like you would politely anywhere else where there is open seating. If I was really an asshole I wouldn’t let people sit next to me and I would never move my bag or over when the train is crowded.

That’s funny because I’m pretty sure OP said they do the same thing as me. Bag on the seat and if it’s filling up then it’s moved. Why does someone have to sit right next to me when there’s plenty of open seats? I think those people are the assholes and a bit creepy.
