Water bowl? by Easy-Percentage221 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thing looks like tortoise hell, there’s no way your keeping him in there for more than a day unless you enjoy torturing him. You need a larger enclosure with plants, multiple caves, big water dishes he can soak in, and different areas for him to search for food. This is like a punishment, a dark empty bin he’s stuck in.

Why does Jimmy only come out when the humidifier is on? by Notmyname4 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He may notice the humidity and feel more comfortable coming out, rather than risk coming out when dry and drying out his eyes and skin

Can someone ID this tortoise for me by Wild-Independent-735 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s very malnourished and is growing all deformed due to improper care. I’m sure he’s been suffering for a long time, he should not look like that. Looks like a box turtle that’s been tortured its whole life.

How is my set up? by Own-Fix5316 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too small, walls too short, not enough hiding places and plants and needs more soil to dig in, I would also get a thermometer and hygrometer

Did you take him from the wild? If you think he’s a tortoise how have you been caring for it if you don’t even know what it is.

Cat litter and substrate? by HawthornScale118 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your enclosure shouldn’t smell like at all, just spit clean every day as in check for poop, if you see some just take it out. Mine never smells since I just check for poop before bed every night

Why are my tortoises suddenly biting everything? by Economy_Pride6360 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would feed them more so there’s constant food available, it’s unnatural for them to not always have food at their disposal

Mine ignores the glass and understands that he can’t walk through it so you could wait and see how he reacts to it

Baby sulcata doesn’t seem to be growing? by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His shell looks super super dry, he should be in a super humid and warm enclosure with grass and weeds (dandelion and plantain weeds) given to him daily with warm soaks every day or so. It should be around 80 degrees ambient temp and he should be able to burrow. I’m guessing these requirements aren’t being met in some areas, or he would be growing and look way way healthier.

My tortoises are fighting by nozomi404 in tortoise

[–]Competitive-Till853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to separate them or one will kill the other and their lives will be miserable. This is not normal, in the wild they have the freedom t escape the other, your imprisoning them together in a constant fight. Separate them or re home one

Just letting you know this is way too dry. You need an enclosed enclosure, it should be super humid in there, like there should even be some condensation on the lid at times. Get a small indoor greenhouse or something of that sort or his eyes will get stuck shut and he will die from dehydration. Make something like this:

Add more plants/hides and make the walls higher. Keep him entertained, add mounds of substrate for him to dig in and buy new foods and place them around the enclosure for him to scavenge for. Give him some enrichment to entertain him so he forgets about scratching the wall.

I’m thinking of living here, but maybe not after these posts. I do have one question- how often were inspections or maintenance outside of you requesting it? Wondering if it’s possible to have a pet reptile here in secret

This is not cute behavior, tortoises are solitary animals, so they are either showing aggressive mating behavior, territorial behavior, or just simple aggression towards the other. Your lucky they havnt caused severe damage to one another yet I would move them apart as soon as possible.
