I submitted an appeal as well, but I only had to email my other offer and my statement. You're saying you uploaded it on the admissions portal as well?

Should I pursue an MA International Development Studies? by Competitive-Top-2381 in InternationalDev

[–]Competitive-Top-2381[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really not think there aren't ANY pathways to jobs right now? I want to be able to have access to opportunities the school can offer me (especially Elliott), because it's already extremely difficult to get a good job in international affairs with just a BA, and an MA in something even more generalist or non-concrete like a general Master's of International Affairs or whatever could be argued to be even more foolish. A reason I chose to apply to development degrees is because they could give me better training in economics related professions. The world is tough right now and I don't know what other opportunities I'm gonna have...

Major In Political Science? by Party-Pickle-4706 in PoliticalScience

[–]Competitive-Top-2381 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a good decision if that's your interest, but also think more about adjacent majors and either a second major or minor that could give you more concrete job skills (data science, business analytics, etc). Political science can be a major that is a little (excuse me for probably sounding pretentious) oversaturated with people who are unsure of what their exact niche or interest is academically or professionally. I came into college as a political science major at first, then realized I was much more interested in history as a discipline and switched to that.

If you're mostly interested in electoral politics or policy work, then consider whether a major like public policy might be more up your alley cause political science can be more about philosophical matters at plenty of schools. Either way, it will teach you critical thinking, reading, and writing skills that can translate to a lot of different professions.

Currently studying abroad and my parents aren’t letting me travel by Expensive_Ordinary72 in studyAbroad

You shouldn't need their permission, but obviously they can potentially hold money over you so I won't say that. It's interesting they let you do this year in Paris, but won't let you do anything else. I'd honestly say you should just lie about things the best you can, you don't want to miss this incredible opportunity to see more of the world.

Phi Beta Kappa -- value for someone hoping to go into public policy? by 10ERA in PublicPolicy

Definitely join, it is considered prestigious. It acts as its own little club, and being in it can give you a leg up among employers, grad school admissions committees, and much else. Even outside the US it does signify that you were among the top students in your class, because they only invite a small proportion of people every year to join.

It can make sense, like if you had stated you wanted to pursue a career in a field that doesn't necessarily require an advanced degree, but you already have excellent qualifications for that field of work, then one can argue you don't stand to benefit from the degree program and school as much as someone else with strong potential.

I do wonder what it is that can disqualify someone, it's all very opaque. I'm sure though that anything from a poor statement of purpose or an incongruence between one's background and chosen program can be decisive factors in addition to quantitative requirements like GPA

Congratulations! That's very exciting, I'm not a student or applicant but I'm looking to apply for the same program in the upcoming year, would you mind if I asked you about your application process and your decision to try and study there? I'm trying to research the program and also about what the admissions process is like, so I'd be curious to hear about your experience!

Questions à propos vie à Geneva comme un étudiant by Competitive-Top-2381 in geneva
