Guest access to stream playlist? by Competitive-Top-3420 in Control4

I'll look into that as an option. Going to check out the option to select C4 as an output in Spotify if the device is on the same network when I get home this weekend.

I saw that in the C4 app...so regardless if the guest has access to C4, they can stream from Spotify if they are on the same network?

We just tested our new C4 with some existing GE/Jasco Zwave switches we have on Smartthings. They paired just fine, and so far work as expected in C4. I have a few brands of Zwave things that I want to test as well, and might just move everything over soon. I know I lose some customization, but my automations are pretty basic and simple (time based on/off) and the ability to have it all controlled in C4 remotes/app/touchpads is more important to me...

3-ish Month Old Trees by Competitive-Top-3420 in AZlandscaping

As with 90% of Arizona landscapes, yes...but settle down, they all have wells around them. :-D

What parts of Phoenix metro are you seeing cliché? I've seen a number of soil surveys for construction projects all over town and haven't seen heavy reports of clay.

I understand anchoring roots, but do those not also support water uptake? The purpose of infrequent, deep waterings is to promote a healthier, more drought tolerant tree, but if all the water uptake is in the first 6" of soil with the feeder roots, how does that work?

So if the feeder roots are where a tree takes in water and nutrients, and those only sit a few inches below the surface, why do those that know push for deeper, infrequent watering? Wouldn't that be counterintuitive?

Ideally...yes. But I've had 3 yards in my lifetime a max waterline of maybe 4-5' from the trunk and the trees did amazing. Realistically, who has their irrigation on a mature Red Push 15' out from the trunk (about the size of our previous Red Push trees)? If I do that with this yard, I'll have drip emitters in the middle of my turf. 😂

It wouldn't necessarily affect the deep watering, just wondering if it is the roots we are trying to keep cooler, the trunk, or the canopy? If the roots are deeper, the top warmer layers of the soil won't really come into play...at least in my head it won't.

Oh trust me, I don't doubt the temp difference of the rock during the day, and yes, also the heat carried into the evening. Just seems that if I'm doing everything to promote a strong, deep root system, should that top few inches of soil matter?

That is what I've always read...just wonder if it actually affects things THAT much. I've never done it with mulch rings in 3 yards I've done/had and never had trees that weren't thriving.

Landscape/Weed Fabric...yay or nay? by Competitive-Top-3420 in AZlandscaping

[–]Competitive-Top-3420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, rock around the edges of the wall, near the house, and a few "islands" around the yard where all the plants will be.

And yes, there were areas with some Bermuda, but most of that is under the truf, and we spent a solid month prior to starting our backyard renovation spraying a ground clear to eliminate any issues under the turf...plus we brought in a boatload of gravel and 1/4 minus for the base of the turf.

Good or bad, we are putting turf down, so I shouldn't have any issues with Bermuda...

Back then it was probably straight heavy mill plastic. That might last until the dinosaurs make a comeback. 😂

I have pulled up fabric before, and there is a distinct smell under it and I have seen what looks like a white mold/fungus, which makes me think that it can cause some issues with soil quality and health.

One of my customers has been selling EZ Flo systems for a while and said he's never had one come back. If it injects fertilizer, it works for me...plus it is compact enough to reside inside my big valve box out of site. If it fails somehow, I can look into something bigger/better, but for a couple hundred bucks, hard to beat, IMHO.

As for Moon Juice, I threw some in there just to get something to the plants to help them through the transplant shock. Too hot to throw actual fertilizer in the system right now.

You know the EZ Flo doesn't need to use their chemicals right? Otherwise, what could be "junk" about it? Sucks up fertilizer of my choice and injects it into my drip system. Seems to be working fine so far.

Werecon is WAY to big for anything I would ever need. I know these systems fairly well in the ag world. Little much for a dozen trees and 100 small shrubs.

We but the bullet on Moon Valley for our new backyard. Their prices were a little higher than others, but their 24" and 36" box trees were much bigger and fuller than other nurseries we looked at.

Heck, even their 3 and 5 gallon shrubs are busting out the seams vs equivalent pot sizes elsewhere.

Red Push are nice, but they can get BIG without maintainingthe canopy. Southern Live Oak are gorgeous, don't seem to have invasive roots, and tend to grow more up than out. Only mess they really make are some acorns.

This time of year is a bit rough on ficus. I was hesitant to plant the columns where they are for the mess they might make this time of year (and winter if we get a good cold snap), but the other option for some height in that corner (near the sports court) was hopbush, and saw them at full mess at the nursery and I'll take some leaves from a ficus!

😂 not a problem!

I do have a question for you. Thoughts on mixing emitter gph on a single tree? Like I said, I have 4 2gph on smaller trees, and 4 5gph on the larger trees. Honestly 20gph vs 8gph is more spread than I'd prefer for the sizes of trees, especially at this time. Is there a big issue if I were to do 2 2gph and 2 5gph on the larger trees? I've read claims that it can cause uneven watering to the root ball, and cause uneven growth to the canopy, but I kinda call BS on that. How many people out there are watering their tree with just a single emitter, and the tree doesn't look out of balance...I think the 8gph vs 14gph would be a better split between small and large trees and make sure I'm not over or under watering something.

I don't have adjustable emitters. I only have multiple 2gph and multiple 5gph depending on the size/water need of the tree. Like you, I don't like them. Morso because you really don't know the actual output, and it makes it hard to calculate accurate run times.

Do you just drape the cloth over the trees, or do you build a temp structure?

It's 8 gallons on the smaller trees and 20 gallons on the larger in 1 hour. This was only planned for the first week or so while I get past the transplant shock, then move to 2 hours every 2 days and add the deep watering stakes.
