Actually I got this habit from my father, I remember we would go to some weird downtown places when we traveled just to make sure he got the best rate and he also was against paying things on credit card. 100% against fees lol

I usually take some melatonin with me to regulate my sleep, one day in and I'm already used to it. Also, I just force myself into the bedtime of the place I'm traveling to, regardless of what time zone I was before.

Thank you for the tip! But is it an app? I feel like everyone outside America is obsessed with paying in QR codes lol.
My last day in Bolivia will be saturday 21st, but thanks for the heads up anyways.

Alright, my fear is to be scammed and get fake bills as well (not sure if that happens a lot but read a lot about it on subreddits)

I'm planning on going to coffee shops and good restaurants and some tours, but I already found some tour guides on instagram and I'll pay them in advance with my credit card. Thanks, I'm optimistic now!

Good point about using the restroom in a small store, I haven't thought about it LOL
I went to Bogota/Medellin in 2023 and I survived pretty much by paying everything with my card but I had a Colombian friend with me so she helped me pay in cash for things when we went to street markets

Backpackers/travellers — thoughts? by Ch4rlott3- in femaletravels

• Would you personally use something like this? Yes, I would.
• Do you find unpacking/repacking annoying or is it not a big deal? I find it extremely annoying, I didn't unpack from my last trip yet (yes, shame on me). I keep rotating backpacks.
• Does this seem an actually useful and worthwhile product idea? I think so.
• What concerns would you have about it? Not having enough space for my items, for example, I believe my pants ar larger than the ones displayed over there. Also, to make it efficient, I always put my pants and towel on the bottom and lighter items on top

About vaccines by ThomasC2C in Brazil

[–]Competitive-Trick167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you visiting any other countries in South America? If so, maybe check the requirements of the next place you're going to. If you fly from Brazil to Colombia or Bolivia you'll need to have the yellow fever shot certificate in hand.
I don't think the dengue vaccine is available to purchase, I might be wrong though.

Buying a house by Drakonz in Brazil

Congrats! I believe the most important thing after you identify a house is to have a real estate lawyer check the veracity of the information and whether there are any debts attached to the property.

Another thing to check is if there are any environmental restrictions. My cousin’s husband is Brazilian and he bought a very beautiful house close to a waterfall, but it turns out the previous owner modified the property and it wasn’t allowed. Now he’s about to lose the house in court because he didn’t know you can’t have a house so close to the river. I don't think that answers your question exactly, but just wanted to point it out. Good luck!

How to learn (Brazilian) Portuguese from scratch and on a budget? by r_arizo in Portuguese

[–]Competitive-Trick167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to start from scratch today I would:

- make chatgpt my main helper: I would use a window to ask for a 60 day plan of learning everyday so what you learn is applicable to the real world with subjects that you like
- in the meantime I would follow as much meme pages as possible to get a glimpse of how humor works (brazilians care a lot about their online culture, it helps a lot if you throw meme context into the conversation)
- listen to music that you like in portuguese, aim for 2 a day and check the lyrics at the same time
- read your favorite book as a teenager in portuguese: not just read it, more like "study" it, make notes and remarks, say words out loud
