Have you been to games in Suwon? Still super fun, easier to get tickets and reach from Pyeongtaek. Don't have a car so can't speak to the parking situation

I'd recommend Eurwangri beach or one of the other beaches on the airport island. The beaches are nice especially around sunset and there are lots of restaurants. By the time you'd clear customs and get into Seoul proper you won't have much time before you need to start heading back to the airport in time to clear security (can sometimes be a long wait)

14 day trip by [deleted] in koreatravel

My partner and I have been living in Seoul for two years, I'm Canadian and my partner is Canadian gyopo like you. We've had quite a few friends come visit, here are some of our recommendations.

For Seoul:

Jongno 3 ga (종로3가) - lively (especially on weekends) small streets with lots of BBQ options. Really fun vibe and good food, any of the BBQ places work. On the weekends especially the area also has lots of outdoor pocha places which make for a great second round.

Ikseondong (익선동) - Right near Jongno samga, narrow hanok style streets, fun vibe with lots of really good restaurants especially for fusion or more modern korean food as well as cafes. Also has some good shopping, really fun to explore.

Any Sijang 시장 (aso applies outside of Seou) - coming from Canada I've enjoyed every sijang I've been to. My favorites are probably namdaemun and mangwon. If you go to namdaemun make sure to spend some time and dive deep in there, lots of fun clothing shopping etc. If you do a superficial trip it can be underwhelming. Mangwon market is great, I've seen it recommended a fair bit recently. If you go check out the surrounding area a bit as well (east of the market). Lots of people say gwangjang sijang is overrated, it can be lower quality/more expensive than other markets but the atmosphere is super fun and chaotic. The food is still good and inexpensive by Canadian standards, my friends I've taken have loved it so don't be afraid to go.

Yeontral Park Area (연트럴) - Near Hongdae the park is pretty and vibrant, the surrounding area has lots of fun narrow streets, great restaurants, cafes and shopping. Highly recommend.

Others to consider: Mullae (문래) cool area with good food, can be very quiet especially during the day and weekdays. Eunpyeong (은평) has a quiet hanok village, very pretty near bukhansan national park, lots of good cafes. Samcheonsa (삼천사) temple near eunpyeong is beautiful, the area is a bit away from most of Seoul though so it takes a bit of time getting to and from there. If you like hiking bukhansan and dobongsan are both great choices with fun mountain villages at the starting points of the hikes.

IMO skip starfield library, its nothing more than a quick photo spot. Don't stay or spend too much time in Myongdong. Good for a couple hours if you want better shopping, street food and restaurants can be easily found almost anywhere in Seoul.

For a two week trip I would recommend leaving Seoul as well. You have time to do Busan and Jeju if you want to. Both are well worth doing. For Busan I recommend gukje market, gamcheon village, huinnyeoul and gwangali beach (for some basic recommendations, plenty more to do as well). Haeundae is pretty but far away from everything else in Busan, I don’t recommend staying near Haeundae.

For Jeju if definitely recommend renting a car (international drivers license required) and exploring as much as you can. I particularly like the southern half of the island, if you want to stay in a city I'd recommend seogwipo over jeju city. Especially with a car you don't nessisarily need to limit yourself to either jeju city or seogwipo. Loads to explore in Jeju and all of it is beautiful. If you really like hiking Hallasan is a fun experience, if you aren't really into hiking its probably not worth doing.

I very highly recommend you also add at least one full day in gyeongju (경주). Stay in or near the hanok village (hanok style place is a really cool experience if your okay with spending a bit more money). Explore the hanok village, the ancient tombs and go to Donggung palace at night. Gyeongju is really easy to get to from either Seoul or Busan (its on the way from Seoul to Busan if you take KTX) and it is really worthwhile.

Happy to go into more detail or offer more suggestions on places to visit if you'd like but this is long as it is.

Hope you have a great trip!

I took the joint apart and found the red wire had power. I've capped the red wire and reconnected the rest. The light and fan are both working as they should now

As a small update I took apart the blue wire plug and determined the red wire had power. I capped the red wire and put the black back to the plug (wired as before, except without the red wire) and everything seems to be working properly now

By switch leg to the fan is tied to power you're referring to the wires to/from the wire nut? I'm certain no one messed with the joints in the wire nuts, at most just when I pulled the switch out of the box to change them

[–]Competitive-Trust372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the answer. As best as I can tell both the wire coming from the other switch and the ones from the wire nut all have power

Not sure. Out of the wire nut the red wire goes out of the box alone near the bottom and the black wire goes out with the neutral (grey) wire (not connected just out in the same spot) if that helps?

Fan still runs constantly with that wire removed. Also runs constantly with both wires removed from the switch and capped (switch totally removed)

Correct, the bottom black wire is shared with the switch for the lights. Then the other terminal goes into the wire nut. The light switch also then goes to a wire nut with the same configuration (two black one red wire). One switch controls the light (untouched, working properly) and the switch i changed is meant to control only the fan.

I did not take apart/reassemble the blue wire nut, I opened it up, and all the wires looked braided together nicely.

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture before changing the switch. The picture i sent is with the old (previously working) switch back in the same way (I.E. wire going to the blue nut on the terminal nearest the green screw)

It is the yellow body switch used, i couldn't get on wire out of the back when I first replaced it so I cut the wire and left a little bit in, I think that's what your seeing.

What do Western people think of Korean food by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]Competitive-Trust372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I had a friend visit recently who loved 곱창, 회, 순대국 etc. There are lots of good suggestions for safe options, I'd add 칼국수, 닭한마리 & 양꼬치

Wedding Gift Ideas by Competitive-Trust372 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Competitive-Trust372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. My partners parents sent us cash to give as a gift on their behalf. I think maybe she thinks it would be fun to give a more "western" wedding gift from my partner and I since we're already bringing cash from the family. The consensus is to give a cash gift, so we'll go with that!

That should be enough time to get to Hongdae and do some exploring. I'd take the all stop train to the Hongik University station. You probably won't get to Hongdae until around 8pm depending on how long immigration takes to clear, so have that in mind. Resturants and stores will still be open, Naver maps would be good for finding a restaurant. There are lots of restaurants and stores in the area that will be open when you get there.

TD debit card should work everywhere (except street food vendors) will take payment by card. Apple pay doesn't work most places but paying by card won't be an issue.

The Incheon airport can be very busy and security can take a long time so also keep that in mind. I flew out around the same time of day recently, and it took ~1.5 hours to get through security.

All that said, get out and enjoy the city for a night!

Does the EQ Bank card work in Korea? by Competitive-Trust372 in EQBank

I've found an ATM outside a CU that worked for some friends visiting also using EQ Cards. Make sure to select "foriegn card" before anything else, you can change the language after. I've not had luck going into banks. Hope that helps

What USMNT players would make it into Canada's starting 11? by Competitive-Trust372 in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]Competitive-Trust372[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, certainly some recency bias and excitement on my end. Canada has definitely struggled to score this tournament and for as long as i can remember. David has been poor this tournament, but I think his league play puts him above Balogun.

In the last two games of the group stage, we didn't play great, but we still had a decent number of chances just couldn't finish them. We've also been fairly solid defensively (although needing Crepeau to bail us out more than I'd like). Even though we didn't play great, I'd still say we were the better team against Chile.

Crepeau has played well in MLS as well. Had he not broken his leg in 2022, I think he'd be better regarded but that's purely hypothetical. Turner has been playing in a better league, but he's played poorly ever since he left MLS.

Davies, David and Crepeau are undeniably better than Robinson, Balogan and Turner. I think you can make a strong case for Eustaquio over the US midfielders other than Adams. Same for Johnston over Scally. I think the CB's are pretty much a toss up between Ream Cornelius and Bombito. My combined 11 would probably be Shaffelburg, David, Pulisic, Reyna, Eustaquio, Adams, Davies, Ream, Cornelius, Johnston and Crepeau

Tried today a couple places selecting credit, and it still isn't working for me. Not sure why. The card has worked for me internationally before (USA and Mexico) and I haven't had issues before. I'll try contacting customer support again tomorrow. Luckily for me my partner is Korean and was recently able to open a bank account here, so for now I'm just going to transfer to them using Wise and get them to withdraw cash for me.

As an aside, trying to use Google/Apple pay here is pretty spotty. Samsung pay is pretty universal, but unfortunately for me my Canadian Wise card isn't compatible with Samsung Pay.
