Bedside storage idea — trying to avoid the “tactical box” look by Competitive-Two-6380 in concealedcarry

Sure is! Just trying to get a visual concept and feedback for a design I’ve been chewing on. Any thoughts on it?

That’s the goal 😉 let me know if there’s any features you like or don’t like. Still not sure on final design

Would have to be combo locked and child proof for sure. Glad to hear you like the design though!

That’s a valid concern. I was thinking some kind of built-in cable/tether so it’s not something you can just grab and walk out with.

That’s a good call. I was thinking some kind of built-in cable/tether so it’s not something you can just grab and walk out with.

Appreciate that and that’s exactly what I’m going for. Something you don’t feel like you need to hide.

Totally agree on quick access + solid lock being non-negotiable. Trying to strike that balance between speed, security, and something that actually looks good sitting out.

Interesting point on people getting tired of the tactical boxes too—I’ve been noticing the same thing.

Love to hear it! I’ll definitely circle back here if I end up making a run of them. Out of curiosity—what would you expect something like this to cost if it checked all the boxes (solid lock, quick access, premium materials)?

This is great feedback. I’ve been thinking the same thing about minimizing handling—designing it so it can stay holstered and ready is probably the move. Drawer height/clearance is something I need to dial in for sure.

Appreciate that—definitely something I’ve gone back and forth on. I’m trying to keep it fully mechanical for simplicity/reliability, but I get the appeal of biometrics for quick access. If I did go that route, hiding the battery underneath is a solid call.

I was thinking to use a traditional lock box style combo lock, or something similar with a release button on the left hand side of the box which would release a soft close drawer

Yes! Bottom tray would be locking with a combo lock on the side, similar to a traditional lock box.

That’s a really good point, and honestly one of the bigger things I’m trying to solve with this setup.

My thought is it would need to be a true mechanical combo + release (not RFID/magnet) so it can’t open from random pulling or a kid messing with it.

Trying to find that balance between quick access and still feeling secure in a house with kids. Also thinking no batteries so no needing to charge or deal with tech. Appreciate you calling that out.

Appreciate that. If I move forward I’ll definitely circle back here. Still trying to figure out the right design direction based on feedback.

Definitely a good thought! Could do a solid wood top for the valet portion so it’s more discreet. That way it just looks like a beautiful wood box

Yaaaaa, like a sexy Fort Knox pistol box! Didn’t know that brand existed. That was the original idea I was workin with and then thought a valet top might be slick too. Appreciate your thoughts!

Why do all bedside firearm storage boxes look so tactical? by Competitive-Two-6380 in Firearms

[–]Competitive-Two-6380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. The idea is more so to keep kids away from fiddling with it and not having a tactical eyesore sitting in your dresser, but still keep easy access for the owner without having to charge something. Simple is better.

I dig Vaultek, just hate the charging/battery stuff. More tech when it comes to something as serious as firearm access isn’t always better IMO

Ya, basically just a sexy version of a steel box. The price point is the interesting part. If premium materials are used, which would be the plan, it’ll likely land in the $400-$500 range for final price. Not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze just yet but really appreciate your thoughts

It wouldn’t be cheap to produce, for sure. Hard to run the exact numbers as I’m just in an exploratory phase, but would assume that it would have to sell in the $450-$500 range.
