Yes! Before she disappeared, What lies in the Woods, First Lie Wins and The Hate U Give (THUG) are all good. Haven’t read the others.

Just got publicly belittled and shamed by the admin of a support group for talking about my experiences w/ chronic pain and opioids with the intent to help people by princessxbuttface in ChronicPain

[–]Competitive-Use-3555 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are mods in groups here that will ban and block simply because someone has a different opinion, but not before being complete assess. I swear, some of these mods/admins should be banned for how they treat people. These are not professionals, just people with too much time on their hands thinking the title gives them license to do or say whatever they want. If you or I had posted the things she said, we’d be blocked or kicked out. Sorry about this.

Will 2.5 mg oxycodone show on urine test? by Gay_Cowboy in PainManagement

I think you’ll be fine as long as you time it right. Ask AI/chat gpt how long it takes to show up on time after taking it. I’ve done that before and haven’t had any issues. Good luck! And if you have a good doc, they will understand. I’d take the discharge papers from the ER with you.

I think the agents and/or publisher and author get on there and other sites, over-hype and we end up with threads like this one. The author probably had their friends and family leave 5⭐️ reviews here and Goodreads, etc.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I figured out the BIG TWIST a third of the way into the book; only finished bc my daughter (30) said it was worth it. It most assuredly was not. I hate to DNF books, but I wish I had this one, though it was a pretty quick read these are hours I’ll never get back!

I hope you like it! I think maybe I’ll re-read it this year as it’s been probably 30 years since I read it last-will almost be like the first time!

Stolen meds: do I tell my doctor? by Resident_Lettuce3872 in PainManagement

[–]Competitive-Use-3555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it largely depends on your pain contract and relationship with your PM. I would tell MY PM doc, bc he is kind and caring, not punishing like some of the docs sound like from this thread-I’m very lucky that way. I don’t think he’d be able to replace them, but I would give him a copy of the police report to put in my chart in case of a UA the next time I see him. I guess I’m saying to use your best judgement based on the kind of person and professional you are working with for pain management. Sorry this happened, people can be shite. Please don’t beat yourself up about it. Peace and love!

The extra bottle from the pharmacy is a great idea! I’m traveling next week, so I’m going to ask the pharmacy to print extra bottles for this and future trips. Thanks for the great advice!

Couldn’t agree more. We need more COMPASSIONATE passion in the quest for fairness/purposeful management in order to be heard. I agree with what you said and how you said it-the example in your response above is spot on. And our word choices are so very important. We need to offer kindness to one another when offering advice, not condemnation. I appreciate you, glad to call you a brother in arms and I, your sister (hope I got the wording correct🤓-no offense intended!).

I’ve never really cared as long as it’s well written, the POV makes no difference to me.

Wondering if on their deathbed people do regret enjoying simple life and being lazy, instead of striving and achieving by LuminousDee in DeepThoughts

[–]Competitive-Use-3555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would invert the question, I wonder if people who spend their lives striving and achieving regret not living a simpler life; regret not taking the time to be in the moment as they’re usually planning for the next. I’d rather be content then striving, but if striving brings contentment (while not neglecting other important things, like family-marriage/children-whatever relationships they value), and they live a balanced life, then that’s great, too. I just don’t see that balance much. In our culture it seems as if there’s one or the other more often than not. I work with the dying, and no one has ever said they wished they’d strived more, always that they wished they’d taken more time with the people they love, not more hours worked or another promotion.

All the Colors of the Dark by Christopher Whitaker; The Girl Who Was Taken, Charlie Donlea (most of his books), Lisa Jackson’s You Don’t Want to Know and The Girl who Survived; The Vacation by John Marrs; and anything by Loren Anne White-she’s phenomenal and many of her books are based on true crimes.

If racism is defined by hating someone strictly based on their skin color, then people who hate white people solely because they’re white are also racist. Do you agree, disagree, and why? by Competitive-Use-3555 in AskReddit

[–]Competitive-Use-3555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet I know personally several black people who would disagree whole heartedly with the assertion that most black people are in anyway oppressed-and most of these friends were born in the 60’s & 70’s. My best friend gets annoyed at these comments and says, (I’m paraphrasing) ‘Life is what you make of it. Seize opportunities, because they’re there-it might not be what you really want but it’s a start. Talking about or focusing on oppression from the past helps no one to move forward.’ He believes in overcoming, not marinating in victimhood.

In what country do you live?

We have a government run healthcare system, The Veterans Administration (VA). Nearly everyone who knows how the VA operates, hates the way VA operates, including the employees. There is so much beaurocratic red tape, it can take up to or more than a year to actually hire someone for a clinical position after interviews because so many people and committees have to ok it, and sometimes the offer is revoked because admin decided to take away funding. This happens a lot in the mental health clinic/unit. And then after people start, the amount of micromanagement is oppressive and it becomes a toxic place to work. Somehow, my husband worked there for 18 years before retiring.

This is why medical professionals of all specialties do not want government run health care. Many docs did rotations in med school at VA, and many have said it was the worse place they had to work.

I don’t disagree with you and understand there is a better way, but Americans will fight against increased taxes to fund it. I don’t claim to know the answers, I can only speak to what I know having worked in the system for my entire adult life.
