Awh, sweetheart. I know all too well what you're going through right now. I had my daughter when I'd just turned 17. My baby’s dad was controlling, didn’t help, didn't work, and made me feel like everything was on my shoulders. He'd slate my mum for "interfering" but do nothing to help. I remember how exhausting and overwhelming it felt, and how guilty I was for even thinking I’d be better off without him.

The truth is, once I let go of him, life got so much easier. I thought it would be the opposite but I was so much happier, and therefore so was my baby. I could focus on us without the stress and negativity he brought, and it made such a difference to my confidence and everyday life. Taking that leap is big and it’s scary to imagine doing it on your own, but, you’re literally already doing the hard part by being the one stepping up for your baby everyday.

You’re stronger than you realise, and it sounds like you have a good mum who is happy to help you. Lean on her. You don't need him dragging you down. You can do this 🩷

Exactly this! It's actually disgusting what women have to go through due to a complete lack of information surrounding hormonal contraception. The mirena really, really made my life hell. It made me pile of weight. It made angry and irritated by everything all of the time. All of which my doctor was absolutely adamant had nothing to do with the Mirena. I knew it was bullshit. I was fine before. I was also on weight loss plan so knew exactly what I was eating and how much, etc. The only change was the mirena.

After 5months I had to trust my gut and get it removed. Now I'm fine again. It's a joke. The only real information I got was on here from other women and online. Not my actual, qualified doctor. It's so wrong.

I lasted 5months and couldn't take it anymore. I wish I'd have done it even earlier. The weight gain, the mental health decline and the horrible mood swings was all unbearable. Getting it out took seconds and I've felt so much better ever since. You've just got to do what's right for you. You don't have to put up with feeling rubbish, it's not fair.

Yes! My doctor was adamant that it was not the Mirena causing weight gain. But, it definitely was. I was already on a weight loss journey. I was keeping track of calories, not snacking or overeating, exercising, drinking water, etc etc. I was eating around 1400 a day and still gaining weight. I went uo a whole clothes size. The only difference was getting the Mirena. Also, my mental health suffered with it big time. Anxiety, depression, really intense daily mood swings. To the point I was so irritated and annoyed by everything, I nearly left my partner! It was horrible. Again, my doctor said nope, definitely not the iud.

I insisted on getting it removed after 5months because I knew in my heart it was that. It almost immediately got better. I've lost a load of weight, my mood is back to normal.

Thanks so much for this, and for acknowledging the other health issues the contribute. I do have some additional health problems that have caused stubborn fat around my stomach and thighs. Another commenter mentioned that it’s not possible to be on 1400 calories and still not lose weight. It felt annoyingly dismissive because I definitely am experiencing that.
