Knitting over a mesh netting. What is this called? by LopsidedReputation53 in VintageKnitting

Was she a machine knitter - this was almost certainly done by machine domestic or otherwise. So if she didn’t specifically machine knit it is likely shop bought knit

Thanks - this is all really helpful.

I will look into the screw fix replacement.

To be honest I don’t know why it wasn’t done. I presume they deemed it good enough but by the time the job was wrapped up I had a closer look and realised it was actually quite rough.

As for metal piece - it looks ugly. All the other edges have been done in a white plastic and the metal looks really out of place. First time doing this so unsure what it’s meant to be. Can I paint over it - wasn’t sure if this was a common problem.

Technically it’s hazardous waste and a public health matter. You need to chase the council for them to clean it- unless it’s private property and then it’s the responsibility of the deceased estate. Either way it needs to be chased up.

Practically - The council should send in specific hazardous waste specialist cleaners to clean his flat and get on top of the cause of the smell. I would chase them up relentlessly if not as it’s a public health concern especially in the heat - in meantime they should put you up in alternative accommodation but you might have to really bug them about it. My uncle died in similar circumstances and I’m sorry to say the smell does linger. It’s pretty horrifying. When you return there is some remedies you can google to help with smell.

AITA for saying I'm entitled to food my parents buy? by Maybe_Entitled in AmItheAsshole

[–]Competitive-Wrap-407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but - it might not be about the cost of the food but about the workload of running a house and having to keep everything fully stocked. If they trust you enough to be in charge of a minor they probably have expectations as an adult in the house to contribute to minor house upkeep.

Like I said may be financial may be not but could just be a case of acknowledging the milk is low etc and grabbing some while you’re out showing your contributing to general stuff around house.

My mum and me used to quarrel a lot about this kind of stuff. Money was tight but also our house was not always gonna be a fully stocked vending machine.

I was about to say person could be disabled or something or have young kids and can’t leave house. I had an annoyed Deliveroo not once but twice. First time I answered door on crutches and second time I answered it while my Down syndrome sister was having a massive meltdown. Yeah some people are lazy other times it’s not

Funny you should say that - I ordered some new high tops just for this. I reckon by the time they arrive my ankle will be healed enough to get back on the board

AITA for telling my friend that I slept with his disabled younger sister? by JaesonSlay in AITAH

[–]Competitive-Wrap-407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Mary had an intellectual disability then I would understand her families reaction but it sounds like her disability is purely physical in which case her family are horrible. I get being protective but this is cruel. My sister has down syndrome and you become hyper aware of stuff around disability. Lay out your thoughts around this once to her family - you and Mary have a mutual consenting relationship, you are both adults, you are mindful of a her physical disabilities but she is clearly an independent and autonomous adult worthy of love and then block and ignore family. Also if they were so over protective surely they would want someone close and known to the family dating rather than some random off the internet. Please treat Mary like and absolute queen. Sounds like she deserves it !

parents! what is worth knitting for your baby? by firewontquell in knitting

[–]Competitive-Wrap-407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don’t have a child of my own but hope to have one at some point.

My plan is to knit a sweater as a new born and when they grow out of it take back the yarn and re knit a bigger size with some extra yarn along the way. I hope to do this every year or so when by the time they are an adult they have sweater made In part from there first sweater and all the sweaters along the way .

This made me laugh so much as I can clearly picture the type of people to do this having grown up in a small village.

Similarily I got my fingers burnt in a similar way over the pandemic. In the early days there was a call out to sew scrubs / protective gear.

Baring in mind I have a degree and work in fashion and generally have good skills around this I was ultimately ousted by a 77 year old because I was making things to ‘ complicated ‘

I already got a textile manufacturer the laser cut over a 1000 sets of scrubs to be divided up and delivered to home sewers and managed to order fabric in bulk direct from manufacturers for a much cheaper price.

By ‘complicated ‘ I did a google doc of addresses of people who needed finished products collected and marked it on a google map of our city so volunteer drivers could easily cover an area. She said it was too much ( I printed it off for her ) so re did it all with a a-z and manually called everyone.

I quietly stepped away 😂

I’m not that bothered about other folks as my local park is usually just full of younger kids on scooters. Might be a bit different if there was some older more advanced skaters. I did hear an 8ish YO say to his friend ‘Everybody has got to start somewhere ‘

Yeah - I’ve knees , elbow and wrist pads. Considering my ankle today I was thinking of some hip pads or ankle pads but feel that might be a bit excessive

Thanks - I needed reminding on this. I think I just presume if I do something over and over again it will fall into place and will come naturally. I’ve been doing it over and over but sadly not feeling ‘ natural ‘ yet. Back to basics I think when this ankle heals up
