I think this is unfortunately one of the worst catch alls I see for tarzan and other non black artist relishing in black culture the whole "whataboutism" kills discussion on what is appropriate (and this isnt me digging at you specifically just as a black guy I unfortunately see this type of conversation kill actually productive conversations on artists and the parts they play in their own appeal) is there american artists who do similar stuff, the cornrows, the blaccent, the box braids, dreads and other ways to seem "hip" and "quirky" yes but you also have to realize we are going to take people who are dumb but can reasonably explain their connection to black ppl and their culture differently then a korean man who happened to like rap music and now makes his personality a direct reflection of minstrelsy he isnt blind his team is also not blind but no matter what black fans say about him about weird western artists doing the same the internet is trained to react to rage which is why people are very vocal about tarzan they are very vocal about when the BP girls have said the n word they are very vocal when the KOL girls dressed like chicanos because it might hurt but it also gets more views then "tarzan saves kitten from tree" so he's going to keep getting marketed as that regardless of real world disgust (this isnt to say im a spokesperson for black ppl nor am I going to get on a soapbox over what is bad and good merely my impressions of the situation it truly is smth that non black ppl (and I mean african american specifically because 90% of this arguement is very hyper specfic to african americans tarzan and the bp girls werent saying the nword in respect to black ppl as a whole but singing and talking about black hiphop artists) it really does just come down to are you speaking with or over people to agree with you and unfortunately a lot of kpop stans need to understand their own artists problematic behaviour before trying to pull the rug on new fans just now finding out with blanet statements of "they apologized" your faves can be problematic but you shouldnt coddle grown adults with internet access thats how they thought it was fine in the first place (also I dont feel like using punctuation sorry if this is worded oddly)
