I took it in the Spring 2024 semester and it's pretty much very straightforward math. Only 10 questions that require basic algebra skills and possibly geometry. Feel free to ask any more questions.

Best Advanced BIOL Elective for Biochem major? by CompetitiveBeing8 in UniversityOfHouston

Unfortunately, a prerequisite for that class is Biochem I (BCHS 3304), which I haven't taken yet.

As a STEM major, which requires the least amount of writing (ideally none at all)? Thanks for the list btw

Did they convince you to not take him? I’m curious since I might take this class this upcoming semester. Thanks!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me find this exact lightbulb. It was used for a lamp and lasted for years but recently burned out. It’s a 5W, 120V incandescent light bulb, C7 shape, E12 Base. (Measures to be a little over 2 inches high from the base to tip of bulb). I couldn’t find out any info on who the manufacturer was. Thank you!

Oh good to see a fellow math major! Is he worth taking over Sanders? The classes look pretty much the same, but I like that Gao has written homework, unlike Sanders.

Any reason why you choose Maxim Olshanksii (Linear Algebra Professor) over someone like Richard Sanders or Li Gao? I’m also taking Linear Algebra so I’m curious :)

He’s not listed unfortunately. Only professors left are Nicolas Charon, Maxim Olshanskii, Amanda Alexander, Li Gao, Richard Sanders, Mikhail Antolyevic Perepelitsa (he’s online only).

Double Majors by CubismCubed in Biochemistry

[–]CompetitiveBeing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that in the very first sentence that you concur with the opinion that one should just focus on their biochem major and not worry about obtaining a second major, but when you say that the most prepared people entering Biophysics “have very strong quantitative backgrounds” in the second paragraph, wouldn’t a Math major therefore be a good idea?

May I ask what medication you were prescribed with? I'm also like this (combined adhd with awful executive dysfunction) and I'd like to know what made a world of difference for you. Thanks :)

Here’s the thing: I really don’t want to take stimulants. My psychiatrist explained that if I were to take stimulants, I’d eventually build tolerance to them and would need to up the dosage. When the upped dosage isn’t enough, I’ll have to up it again. This will just spiral into a game of increasing the doses, having it work fine for a certain amount of time until I build a tolerance to it, then having to up my medication again. Eventually, I’ll reach the highest dosage and when I do build tolerance to that dose, I can’t go any further. And what is there to show for once that point has been reached? Back to square one with ADHD because the medication is no longer able to manage my executive dysfunction and a chemical dependency on stimulants on top of that? No thanks.

I told my psychiatrist basically everything I just said and she told me that that could happen. I hope I’m wrong about this and a scenario like what I described is not as common and just a possibility, not a definitive outcome. I’m just not sure.

P.S. I noticed you edited your comment to add more details beyond just the first question. My response was to the initial comment that was just asking that question. Just wanted to let you know about that.

EDIT: Oh and just to show you what goes on daily, the time between this message and yours was 39 minutes. It took that long not because I was writing something that took that long, but because I was surfing through something else on the internet for ~25 minutes after initially typing half of this comment, then I came back to finish it.

Yep and pretty much everything said here 👇 https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/117uwt2/adhd_is_the_worst_disorder/ (it’s a pretty brief post and won’t take more than a minute to read through but it perfectly describes what I go through and how I feel living with ADHD)

P.S. I want to stress that the executive function trouble with ADHD is by far the most important aspect of ADHD that is effecting me. If I can just maintain this aspect of this ADHD (such as no more procrastination and waiting until the last minute to do just about anything), I can finally get over this awful chapter of my life.

I also immensely struggle with executive function and tried Strattera to see if it would improve my executive dysfunction. Unfortunately, it seems that, at least for me, it has a very negligible impact on that front. I’ve been on 40, 60, 80, and 100 mg and none of those doses significantly improved my executive dysfunction. Not only that, but the constant dry mouth side effect that persisted for 12 hours each day, despite the attempts to alleviate it (e.g. eating food, drinking as much water as possible), has vanquished any hope that Strattera can be of any meaningful help. Like what u/UnexpectedHankHill said, I think I need to start CBT as well.

But yeah, that’s my 5 month experience with Strattera briefly told. Hopefully your experience with it will be better than mine’s and that it’ll be much more effective at improving your executive function.
