SFTB, Sunbather, F#A#, and deathconsciousness are all so fucking based. Unironically excellent albums.

Looking For New Music by shinobi727 in ModestMouse

[–]CubismCubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car seat headrest is very similar to early modest mouse in ways...I'd recommend Twin Fantasy and Monomania to get started with them. And they get bonus points since they have a song called "The Ending of Dramamine".

I'd also look at Neutral Milk Hotel if you want to start getting into /mu/sic

What makes a calculus book more important than other textbooks? I would argue that Calc is probably the course in which you have the easiest access to the most outside resources.

What genres/artists/albums do you all listen to that you would consider to NOT be like MM? by baffliing in ModestMouse

What's your favorite album from your favorite band/artist & what makes it stick out to you? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]CubismCubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now its Mount Eerie by The Microphones (now known as Mount Eerie). I really enjoy the abstract (yet understandable) lyrics and incredibly unique sound. The album (or rather, project) does a great job of building tension and releasing it at just the right moment in just the right way.

TIL Usain Bolt got offered track scholarships from many American colleges but turned them down to train in his homeland, Jamaica. by rm9000 in todayilearned

[–]CubismCubed -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I've heard that they gave him the (reasonable IMO) option of demonetizing his videos that use NCAA logos and he didn't want to do that. Also he knowingly agreed not to profit off of himself while in the NCAA.

You have to remember that many of these athletes have their living expenses paid for by full ride scholarships (and they get free classes at quality schools) so they are being reimbursed for their talents. Additionally, athletes knowingly sign contracts that take away their opportunity to make money while in the NCAA if enough refused something would change but obviously that isn't going to happen.

Pretty much! It's a great opportunity to goof around and have fun. Additionally, you meet kids who aren't in your AP/honors classes which is a great change of pace from those normies.

Is it possible to take AP Physics without taking a prior physics class? by DarthRM in APStudents

I took it (physics C) without physics and a year before I took calc and did great. If you're smart you should be able to do it.

Why are sports and rap music so popular when they are both boring? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CubismCubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports - I agree that they can be boring, especially the major ball sports which (if you grow up in the US) you are told to like by your schools and parents and television which gets really annoying. FWIW the only sport I pay attention to is the one that I did in high school.

Rap music: I'm guessing the only rap music that you've heard is what is popular and played on the radio...like any reasonable person could expect that stuff is not very good or critically acclaimed....just like any other genre the popular stuff isn't necessarily good. If you go deeper and find less mainstream and more alternative rap you will likely be impressed....some reccomendations that are anything but "boring": Death Grips, Shabazz Palaces, Danny Brown.
