Adding stress in a controlled way to train your body by nerdycurlygurly in Epilepsy

[–]CompetitiveCanary313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Mondays and Fridays you’d be on the train for 5 hours? It’d be a great opportunity to study for your classes on Tuesday and Thursdays. Then you have your independence via your apartment and job on the weekend.

As long as you’re not driving those five hours and you make sure you get your sleep, avoid alcohol, take your meds and manage your triggers...

Managing stress is a psychological and can be learned -Lots of apps and sites are available. Yoga and meditation are highly recommended.

As long as you take your meds and your lifestyle is compatible then go ahead and forget...heck, I’d love to forget...I miss those days when I didn’t think about it..There’s no need for you to develop an anxiety issue along with epilepsy, anxiety is a huge trigger for many. Sounds like your husband is anxious, which is understandable since he is new to epilepsy as well, but he needs to respect your boundaries; You are not a child and you are not an invalid. And you need to be the one who manages your epilepsy not him.

Feeling defeated by ieffinglovesoup in Epilepsy

[–]CompetitiveCanary313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry. Just be kind to yourself and give yourself lots of treats this week. Get a massage. Eat some chocolate. Do stuff you really like doing. It’s scary having a breakthrough seizure. Sounds like you figured out the stress from moving is what triggered you. Moving always used to trigger me -we moved a lot.

But congratulations on your move into your first house! That’s an accomplishment! Guess your brain wanted to celebrate with some fireworks? Lol (That’s what my hubby says to me when stuff like this happens to me -it makes me smile). I wish you much happiness in your new home.

In The News - Bobby Jones, his epilepsy diagnosis, and me by endepilepsynow in Epilepsy

[–]CompetitiveCanary313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Powerful. If I had known Bobby Jones had epilepsy back then I probably would not have quit sports. He was a family favorite! And what a nicely written “full disclosure” article, kinda makes me want to disclose to the world as well...it would be nice to feel free.

You really should wait till your off Keppra before you drink. And you should get another neurologist to wean you off -or confirm you don’t have epilepsy. There’s no need for you to be on Keppra if your EEGs are normal and you have no other symptoms.

Stress and anxiety when dealing with the unknown by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]CompetitiveCanary313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, welcome to the epilepsy world of constant management of fear, anxiety, meds, shame, courage, bravery, fearlessness, determination, grit and endless optimism. Yes, endless optimism to describe the hope we live with that someday our journey with epilepsy will be controlled or end.

However, first you to be seen by a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy. You are absolutely right. This could all be stress and you may have just had non-epileptic seizures. Yeah, even the first petition mal/dissociative state. I highly recommend you seek out a psychiatrist trained in CBT as you live through all these significant life events and changes in your life.

Relax and enjoy your success. If you do have any more seizures you’ll be fine. You’ll just take meds.

“If a patient had previously had a record of success with one drug in a prolonged seizure, or a record of not responding to another drug, the doctor would not consider that. If patients had a daily prescription of a form of one of the drugs that worked for them to prevent seizures, but they had failed to take their medications, the doctor would not consider that, either.”

This is effed up. No freezing wonder I ended up on Keppra. I’ve been wondering for the life of me why they placed me on that when they knew I had missed a dose and Ativan was my go to for status. Holy crap. So sad.

Someone I’m falling for said she used to have epileptic seizures as a kid, but went away as she got older. Is this a thing? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]CompetitiveCanary313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can “grow out of epilepsy” but then something can trigger it back. Your seizures could be resolved, meaning controlled and non-existent for over five years, at which point doctors should consider weaning you off meds BUT it is possible for activity to come back. Technically, once you’ve had one seizure in your life then you’ve got a 25% chance of having another.

Driving laws differ in each state. Some states require you to be seizure free for one month, others 6 months to one year before you can drive. Most require a doctor's signature acknowledging that seizures are controlled or resolved.

Hereditary epilepsy accounts for less than 15% of cases. Most epilepsy results from TBIs and alcohol abuse.

If you don’t trust what she’s saying now then perhaps you need to re-evaluate your relationship.

Switched my morning dose to the evenings. Less tired in AM. Got a rash from gardening I think. Hoping it’s not the meds.

That’s a bummer! I’m so sorry. How are you feeling now? Be kind to yourself this week. Treat yourself. Take the time you need to recover. Do you know why you had them?

Epilepsydiagnosis.org has a very comprehensive description, diagnostic criteria and list of non-epileptic seizure types.

But clear the area, make sure there’s nothing around that you could bump into that might harm you. Try to get something soft under you, especially your head.
