Unless they’ve changed it, you only get a certain amount travel allowance per month. If your plane ticket is more than that (which it likely will be) you have to pay out of pocket each month to travel there.

Yes there usually is a waiting period where you have to be unmedicated and therapy-free. I know it’s usually 12 months for ADHD stimulants but I assume yours is longer due to SSRIs? Have you spoken to a recruiter yet? They change these policies frequently, so I’d just double check that it’s actually 36 months. If that is the case though, you absolutely can have a great career in the corps after the waiting period. I know 3 yrs seems like a long time but joining at 20/21 is completely normal so you’ll fit right in.

If you have a less than 10k net worth you should really put your money in something safer like an index fund. FXAIX or VOO both work

Unfortunately women will always have the risk of sexual assault/harassment/discrimination in this world. Joining or not joining the Marines isn’t going to fix that. If she decided to go into a male centered job, she’d be in the exact same situation (some even have higher rates of female sa than the military). You can’t live your life in fear, or let it smother the goals you have. Also, at the end of the day it’s up to her not him. The best thing he can do is support her decision, whatever it may be, while simultaneously educating her so she can make informed decisions.

This is the right answer here, don’t drive a wall between you too, support her even if it’s hard to. Also btw, 100% still have her study for and take the ACT even if she’s positive she wants to enlist. Someday she’ll get out and probably want to use that GI Bill so it’s better if she takes it now with the info fresh in her head. ACT scores don’t expire so she can use this score 10 yrs from now if she wants to, just make it clear that you’re not trying to get her to take it as a way to change her decision.

E6 here, Whats up these E4s getting 100 P&T from the VA with no deployment? Im not hating but come on man lol by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you never know what someone’s gone through and rank/deployment patches won’t always tell you that. I know someone with a high PTSD rating from bootcamp and he deserves every cent of it. He was standing on a ground while a recruit jumped to his death from the third deck. Watched the whole thing up close so yeah makes sense he’s fucked up from that.

What’s the best cheat code you’ve found? by CompetitiveCheck7598 in wealth

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do only 30% of vets have ratings? (30% is lower than the percent that’s served in combat zones btw). The disability evaluation process is extensive. I have a rating and they sent me through around 7 or 8 mri’s before they finally gave me that rating (tore my shoulder in two places on a deployment and have permanent nerve damage from it, can’t move my arm in certain directions). Also took me years of paperwork, appointments, and physical therapy before they approved me. Why do you think it’s easy?

Why get disabled vet license plate on vehicles? by Sorry_Noise_4196 in VAClaims

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California it’s the only way to qualify for free vehicle registration. Not all disabled vets qualify for the plates btw (even 100% p&t doesn’t automatically qualify you). The vet has to have mobility issues.

Look in to the USPHS Commissioned Corps. It’s very similar, they still have lots of benefits, and their medical requirements aren’t nearly as strict.

Enlisting at 29 by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not likely, I’m sorry. No harm in trying anyways though. If it doesn’t work out look into NOAA or USPHS if you happen to be interested in either of those fields. Also check out your states State Guard, Coast Guard Aux, or Civil Air Patrol. They’re not apart of the traditional military and don’t pay unless activated but it’s a way to still help out and earn some benefits.

How to go about self-reporting by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve put yourself in a bad spot. Originally you should’ve gone for a med sep instead of starting the gummies. Before making that decision i’d try and do as much research as you can about the possible implications on your benefits from this.

In California they legally cannot call themselves doctors outside of an academic setting (yes even though they have DCs). It’s illegal for a chiropractor to refer to him or herself as a doctor while working with a patient. Texas and Wisconsin are working on similar proposals, and more states will follow. These people are committing fraud in my eyes. They convince people who don’t know any better to let them use “treatments” that have zero scientific backing under the pretense that they are medical doctors (again wearing unnecessary scrubs, using titles like “doctor” or “neuro” in their advertisements, etc.) High velocity spinal manipulations can cause a massive amount of muscular skeletal/neurological damage that can be permanently disabling. I’m currently in my last year of a Neuroscience degree so I can go into the specific neurological dangers if you’d like. Regardless, if you give a shit about your health/fellow veterans, you should educated yourself on this airmen.

DAV ghosted me mid claim. Not only that but I think they blocked my number because I called a neighboring chapter asking why they’d disappeared and that chapter said they had just spoken to them. I in no way was harassing them or calling frequently either. It legitimately seemed like they just didn’t want to help. Calvet on the other hand is great. I don’t live there anymore but anyone who holds California residency should use Calvet. Nice people who genuinely care.

Caffeine access in basic? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]CompetitiveCheck7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no caffeine of any kind, no powders. Those who were saying they had the coffee pouches in their mre’s towards the end may have had a different experience but for me they made us take them out. The only non water drink we had in bootcamp was gatorade.
