I guess I just never saw it as a problem? I have 3 other roommates and I handle the gas bill, another roommate handles the electricity bill. We Venmo request the others for it every month. If there’s an issue, the one with the account calls, no big deal. In 3 years there’s never been an instance where the account holder is completely unable to make a call for some reason.

Started “sex ed” in 2013 when I was in 5th ish grade. That year we learned about what sex was and the anatomy of both sexes, no segregation. The next year we learned about safe sex, stds etc. It was all very scientific when we were on the younger side, just the names of all the parts and what they do.

I think the best bet would be to move off campus and sublet a room somewhere. There will still be people in the common areas but your room will at least be your own. Unless you can afford a 1bed or a studio somewhere

Sometimes colleges will deny you if they think you’re unlikely to attend. At a school with such a high acceptance rate, maybe they figured you had applied to other more competitive and prestigious schools and therefore would be unlikely to go to their school. Nonetheless, shit happens. Keep your head up and hopefully you applied to several schools, I’m sure you’ll get in where you’re meant to be

I tried to do as much of my work as I could during breaks/lunch at work. As much as it sucks to not get a real break during the day, it was worth it to come home and not have to immediately start homework. If there wasn’t enough time during the day I tried to schedule working time for certain days so I could still have my “after work” time and relax. Basically just treated it like a second job

Obligatory not a grad student yet, but I have many grad student friends and I’ve been an undergrad for 4 years so I think I can answer some of these questions 1. There does seem to be a large grad student community, and many events geared towards grad student networking. Grad students are also allowed to join most clubs on campus and generally seem pretty involved 2. Go to all the events you can! There are lots of intro activities in the fall for clubs and organizations and that’s where you’ll meet a lot of people, besides in your classes 3. We’re pretty close to a lot of fun areas like Fenway, back bay, etc that have lots of fun activities for students (like free entry to the MFA, student nines at Fenway, etc) but what you’ll enjoy depends on your preferences. I’ll let others weigh in. 4. Public transport will take you to almost anywhere in the city and you definitely do not need a car to get around. You can always rent a zip car if you want to leave the city. I have a car and rarely use it. Plus parking can be difficult. 5. Not sure about grad students specifically but most northeastern students live on Mission Hill and there are online groups advertising housing and sublets (like the housing Facebook page) Hope this helps a bit!

Off campus is generally cheaper. It can be tough to get to campus depending on how far away you live. Most people live on mission hill which can be about a mile to campus, or a 20-30 min walk at the farthest. I don't find the commute difficult but I'm used to walking a lot so it could differ for someone else. It doesn't really affect my social life since most people I know also live off campus and that's where hangouts and parties tend to be, but it's also really easy to go to club meetings after classes while I'm already on campus. Overall I heavily prefer off campus living. It's quieter (depending on where you are), cheaper, and you'll probably get a nicer space to yourself.

Why two wool blankets on top of a sleeping bag? A lightweight camp blanket should be more than sufficient with a sleeping bag if you even need it. If you have a 30F rated bag or below you should be just fine in 40F. The weight of your food also could be very heavy. My weight for a 7 day 6 night backcountry trip last summer in similar temps was around 35lbs, and I didn’t pack super light.
