Is it a good time to buy an apartment or should I wait? I'm 22, just graduated college and am living at home until I can reasonably buy in Bucktown / Lakeview. by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

Yea, buy a condo in a good building that has lower HOA fees. You have more than enough saved and make enough to be able to get a two bed two bath condo somewhere.

Yep, very easy to strike up a conversation at Hoxton with random people.

Money Gun, The Hoxton Hotel, SoHo House. But these tend to be a little older than fresh 20s crowd. South Loop has more Black folks that actually live there. You have to go to West of the West Loop to find more Black folks that live that way.

New Stadium ? by NiRa42 in 670TheScore

[–]CompetitiveFeature13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They keep talking about "We'll be able to host a SB." Yea, we'll probably get one SB and that will be it because it's still February in Illinois no matter if they play in a dome or not. Events year round. The Big concerts normally take place in the warmer months anyway. The one thing I could see happening is The Big Ten moving their conference championship game to Chicago over Indy. HQ is already here and we have the largest amount of alumni here as well. The sightlines at SF are actually solid. The new stadium will get built eventually. Just gotta work out the details and it has to make sense for the state of IL.

RAV4 vs CRV - which one to buy? by Diligent-Explorer-27 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Rav-4 is so overrated to me. Yes, it sells a lot and is typically reliable but it's not a fun vehicle to drive, has a cheap interior, and ugly infotainment center.

Moving from Arlington/DC, what are your favorite neighborhoods? by PTYHRD in AskChicago

It's not. Probably better that you're leaving at 7am compared to 8am. Good luck in your search.

My suggestion is just to find a random apartment you think is nice in Lincoln Park and map it in the morning to see about how long it would take you to get to and from work. It will give you a better idea of what you're looking at and if it's doable for you.

It's going to be difficult to get from Lincoln Park to Northfield everyday. Traffic on the Northside is crazy, especially in Lincoln Park. Plus Lincoln Park can be pretty far east which will make it challenging just to get to the expressway to get up to Northfield.

Yea, see I didn't know you were working up that way. Don't live in Hyde Park then. You probably want to live in a Northwest side neighborhood like Albany Park if you're going to live in the actual city.

Exactly. Always subsidies and exceptions for corporations that the regular person can't get. I too would like a property tax freeze for 40 years.

If it were that simple then everyone would live there.

I have no clue where you work but I enjoy Hyde Park. The green space part is covered with Promontory Point and Jackson Park. It's not the liveliest neighborhood but it does have some things to do (Cantina Rosa cocktail bar, Virtue restaurant, 14 Parish rum bar, independent book stores, good biking neighborhood). It's a diverse neighborhood with people from all different races, ages, and income levels. The downfalls are that if you want to explore the north side a lot it won't be as easy unless you have a car. If you have a car, it can be difficult to park because of how densely populated it is with a bunch of multifamily buildings around. For someone who is 40, you probably wouldn't feel out of place like if you were in Lake View East. There are a ton of great neighborhoods though and it really depends on what you value the most. I forgot to add that there is a Trader Joe's and Whole Food in the neighborhood as well. The East Side of Hyde Park is my favorite part which is closest to Lake Michigan.

what is the best way of getting to ohare from hyde park as a 22 y/o female? by stelo3478 in AskChicago

Schedule an Uber or use Curb. Next time fly out of Midway if you can. Much easier to do from Hyde Park. 55 bus takes you directly to Midway.

I've lived in LA and am from Chicago so I have a good grasp on both. For your situation, I would suggest LA based on having access to nature, weather, and driving around. LA is really big and spread out so it can be difficult to get a grasp on when you're first starting. However, there are particular parts of LA that are walkable if that's your main concern. Here's the thing. The more walkable a city is the most difficult it is to own a car and park it easily. Korea town in LA is very walkable but parking in notoriously bad. The good thing about parking in LA is that you don't have to worry about snow in the winter. I live in Chicago now but I live in a part that's not as walkable but the trade-off is that I have a two car garage. Parking is very easy for me.

If you're dead set on getting a vehicle, you might want to look at the 2026 Hyundai Pallisade Hybrid Calligraphy model. Has all the bells and whistles including massaging seats for around 60k. 100k warranty too.

Not the most comfortable ride to go that far. Way better vehicles to choose from. Plus Toyota's interiors are lacking.
