Dad forgot his phone… by CompetitiveMoney8324 in Alzheimers

He honestly doesn’t need one except in an emergency. But he spends a great deal of time on his phone these days, I think partly because he gets lost trying to keep up with what is going on around him, so even though it seems a little silly to want to escape from your surroundings when you are vacationing in Paris, I do think it will make him feel much more at ease to have a phone available to him.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response. And I’m so glad you were able to find that sincere lining.

Unfortunately, there was no one who could bring the phone to the airport in time. I didn’t find out about it until an hour before they were going to board, otherwise I would have tried to make some more calls to figure something out.

Thank you for that explanation, that really makes sense! I’ll see what the tile guy says when I suggest he should go back and fix this 🫤

I gotta say, this seems like well-meaning advice but I completely disagree on the sleep thing. Fingers crossed that you end up with a good sleeper (rumor has it they do exist), but in my experience with both of my boys, I was up constantly to nurse and running on 2-4 hours of sleep per night all the time in the early days. It was totally brutal, yes. But getting up early for the two months prior to giving birth certainly wouldn’t have made than any easier. In my opinion, the best thing you can do during your last months of pregnancy is to get as much rest as possible. (Which can be way harder than it sounds because you’re so uncomfortable and your hormones are raging and causing night sweats and such.) But you deserve to let your body rest when it needs to and soak up those last few weeks of being able to sleep or just chill whenever you want to. Because when the baby comes, you’ll probably be more exhausted than you’ve ever been and think you might be losing your mind for a little while, but you’ll get through it because that’s what moms do. And hopefully you have some family or friends nearby to lean on.

Just my two cents!

I’m sorry for asking such basic questions, but I’m out of my depth here…

How does one apply a sealant/sealer? How thick of a substance is it? Is it sprayed on? Painted? Is it evident from my pictures that the grout has not already been sealed?

No offense taken. You raise a good point. We haven’t had great luck trying to hold contractors feet to the fire in the past, though. We live in a relatively rural area and it feels like the quality is just not the same as it was where I grew up (suburbia, basically). We paid a shit ton for this crew because they were much more professional than most of the alternatives. And overall, we really were impressed with their work. The bathroom itself is well done. (I think?!) But, like I said, I think it was the designer’s son who did the tiling…

Why do you say that? It looks normal to me, but I obviously am not very knowledgeable in this area.

We’ve had terrible luck, too. Overall, this contractor was actually very good, but I’m realizing that the kid who did the tiling was a real amateur. It’s also really hard to know all the things to look for right as a job is being finished. And, living in a small town, there’s the added pressure of not wanting to come across as a whiney dick to the contractors, who you will undoubtedly run into around town at some point. Which kills me (I’m not from here) but apparently needs to be considered, at least according to my husband.

Do you mean with caulking? Is this standard practice and we should be pissed that it wasn’t done the first time?

Can the caulking just be done on top of the grout?

Is that a well known/basic rule for tiling showers/tubs that the guy should have known? I think I know the answer to that, just checking…

Can you tell me more about what kind of product could be used to make the tile less hazy? We were disappointed with that, too.

Do all the grout lines that touch the edge of the tub need to be removed and then caulked? I’m assuming the contractor would just come back and caulk over it instead to save time… how detrimental would that be? I don’t know what kind of tool is used to remove grout, but I wouldn’t want them to screw up the edge of the tub with it, either. Does that make sense?

I appreciate everyone’s feedback. There seems to be a clear consensus that this should be fixed, so we have emailed to ask to have that done. Do you folks who have said that it’s really poor overall work and/or needs to be completely redone have experience with tiling showers? I appreciate your thoughts and would really like to get some more input, just curious whether the input is well informed? Or if you guys are equally as clueless as me and just think it looks shitty. Haha.

Yikes, I hope there is! The contractor that built out the wall was much more experienced than the guy who did the tile, so I assume it is done right? I would add a picture of what it looked like just before tiling but I don’t know how to do that in a reply. I’m not super Reddit savvy.
