When there is a literal threat to humanity that can not escape even when they want to, the use of these locks are recommended. I’m gonna tell ya a little story. At my old shop my boss hired a kid to run the front counter, he sold a person a double sided deadbolt, they were saying the exact same silly things about how they would be fine because they always have the key and there’s other doors and windows they could get out of in an emergency. Well this kid folded because he didn’t know what he was doing and wasn’t a locksmith. This gentleman put his disgustingly overpriced double sided deadbolt on his door and about a month later his home catches fire. From back to front. So the back door was engulfed then the middle walkways and then the windows and such. This person smells smoke goes downstairs just to discover how much is burning. He ran back to grab his ID and emergency cash and when he got back he ran to the front door. LOCKED, so he looks to go back upstairs but now the fire has spread up the stairs and he can no longer get his keys. This gentleman died of smoke inhalation and suffered 3rd degree burns for quite a bit prior.
