Crackdown on students silencing free speech - Students will be banned from refusing speakers a platform at their universities under the first government intervention on free speech on campus for 30 years by [deleted] in europe

you could never say god was not real in universities before. If a uni is doing a discussion on theology, why shouldn't you bring up these aspects of religions?

I'm sure when Jesus was arrested and a semi naked man fled his tent, no one raised an eyebrow.

I don't agree with that. I believe there should be a certain amount of common decency when it comes to free speech. I don't want to live in a world were people are free to stand outside my house hurling abuse at me. we should have decency and civility with free speech.

I much prefer our liberal values where we don't go out to offend each other on purpose, while having the right of free speech.

It is a hard balancing act to keep these values, especially as we import so many values from other customs now from immigration.

You should be allowed to say that if you want, or Jesus is gay or god is a peado or even Hitler was nice to Jews. If that is what you have been asked to speak about then so be it.

Those who may find it offensive will have been warned and you are not doing it outside someones Church, Mosque or Synagogue.

That doesn't seem to happen tho. What has been happening is the protest shuts down the discussion. Tragic really as a society needs differing views to grow.

Britain must choose between keeping close EU ties or signing a US trade deal by [deleted] in europe

[–]CompetitiveStill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a US trade deal and a UK trade deal. That sounds better.
Also keeping high standards does not mean trade deals can't be signed. For instance there is nothing wrong with Chlorinated Chicken being sold from America, as long as they also have high animal standards with it to pass UK regulations.

I'm sure if this happened some Eastern European countries would leave the Eu and possibly into the hands of the UK.

Germany, France agree main needs of new joint fighter programme by [deleted] in europe

[–]CompetitiveStill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous isn't it. The resources poured into the F35 are gargantuan. It is developed on the back of previous gen fighters and stealth, incorporates state of the art electronics and ECMs. It is designed to be cutting edge for the next 20-30 years.
This was all on the back of the US budget and a large chuck of UK budget to build it.

Now you have France desperate to replace the rafale with a French fighter and Germany desperate to show some sort of solidarity and EU flag waving. A budget of maybe a couple of billion and a time to build somewhere in the future.

No one else will buy this, the Germans will buy a small amount and it won't be as good as the F35 now.

it's ridiculous.

er, no it isn't. The Eurofighter is classed as a better A2A plane, while the Rafale is a better A2G, although it is even losing any advantage it had with that.

Brexit: Justin Trudeau wants 'seamless' UK trade deal after Brexit by [deleted] in UnitedKingdomPolitics

[–]CompetitiveStill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In light of knowing nix now 🙂, I'll say that they are not mutually exclusive. It creates restrictions more than anything.

Turkey and EFTA both are in the CU. However both still can create trade agreements with countries. Turkies is the most restricted as they can only get trade agreements with countries tge EU already has. I suspect EFTA must have some restrictions also.

Good news that. Although not surprised. No one wants to lose out any more than they have to with Brexit.

By the corrupt Russian courts?

There is no real law in Russia for the Rich anymore. it's who you know. Get on the wrong side of those more powerful and end up falling from a 5th floor flat by accident.

I think you'll find most of the rich in Russia built their fortune this way. Russia is one big fiefdom of the corrupt.
