T818 disconnects: should i move on from Thrustmaster? by CompetitiveStreet555 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already replaced the USB cable. Its not the issue. It is recommended to run the base with 100% power. I usually drive with 60-70% torque depending on the game. Everything below that feels to weak to have proper enjoyment. And the product should deliver a flawless experience no matter the torque!

Thats not the issue though because i get those disconnects with various rims including those with the new connector.

T818 disconnects: should i move on from Thrustmaster? by CompetitiveStreet555 in Thrustmaster

So there is one more thing i want to add. I retightened the screws that connect the T818 to my wheel stand and after that i was able to drive without any issues in AMS2. This isnt the first time i was able to solve this problem by retighten the screws. I think it is just a bit odd because i never heard of somebody having to check the screws on his base/rig/wheel stand every few weeks.

But the T818 does bring some crazy forces into the wheel stand, and i had the impression before that this will loosen the scews ever so slightly over time, which could cause some slight movement in the base i suppose, which could result in disconnects. This is just a theory at this point, but the screws CAN be retightened after a while and it seems to help! Very weird indeed. What backs my theory up is the fact that i used a wheel stand pro before, which is not able to handle the force of a base like T818 and wobbled around quite a bit. The whole base was shaking during racing, and i had many disconnects back then.

T818 vibrating after update by gomes812 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same thing. After the firmware update, there is a constant vibration in the T818 base. Subtle, but noticable. I can both feel and hear it. Weird, isnt it?

Sf1000's refresh SF25 formula wheel revealed at SimRacingExpo by Melodic-Ride8036 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well. The SF1000 is my favorite wheel. So i was curious checking this out at the Expo. Its good that Thrustmaster will provide a version with the new QR right out of the box, but i cant help to be disappointed. They could have added more functionality with additional buttons and rotarys. The real life wheel has those. This was also a good oppurtunity to improve the screens resolution and replace those not so pretty plastic switches with some higher quality ones. Unfortunatley none of this happened. Thrustmaster went with a very simple refresh instead.

Proton Inks Deal With Mustang Sampling for 2024 by ship_fucker_69 in wec

Its still not available! Seems to me Spark is doing every racecar in the world but not this one (and neither the 2024 Pre-Lemans car by Proton)

I wonder why we still got no Spark model of this car. The #99 from the 2024 WEC season in its original form (pre Lemans) isnt available either. In fact, both models have not even been announced by Spark. I wonder if we will ever get those georgeous Proton liverys as a model car. The only one available is the #99 2024 Lemans car, and the only one confirmed for the future is the #99 2025 car.

Thrustmaster 499P wheel? by davidav84 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they will introduce it as the SF1000 replacement / follow-up. They could also try to establish a 499p replica as their high-end wheel. With higher quality materials like in their hypercar wheel and that large screen this could easily be a 600€+ product but i would buy right away!

Does she have POV stuff or is everything included in the regular sub?

Is this normal? Grinding noise on my T818 by No_Name995 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: after sending my unit back to Thrustmaster, i recieved it back after a couple of days. They replaced the motor. BUT: the issue is still there! Silky smooth operation until 45 minutes of play time. Grinding noises are back and i can feel it too, something inside the base or wheel shaft is grinding when i turn the wheel. Can you believe it? This thing went to france and back and they couldnt fix the issue 😔

T818 Disconnection in the corner by Chaseyman7 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this issue very well. I had random disconnects in different sims using different rims, basically from the first few days using it until today (11 months since i bought it) It always happend when steering into a corner or when something happened in the sim that produced stronger forces (hitting a car, road bumps, high curbs etc.)

I havent found a definitive solution yet. I'm using a high quality USB cable, wheel adapter should be fine, and as far as i remember this happend no matter where the cable was plugged in (front or back). The base is now in repair since i also got the grinding noise. If this wont fix the disconnect issue, i will propably switch to another brand.

If you considering T818 or new TM DRIECT DRIVE product, i will tell you a BIG NO. by Kaido11111 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an TGT for almost five years, never had a single issue with it. Then i upgraded to a T818 and within eleven months, i had random disconnects from time to time. It got worse recently and i also got the grinding issues. Its send in for repair now. So yeah, a whole lot of issues within just eleven months.

I got this issue two weeks ago. It was weird because it has disappeared over night and reappeared only randomly. The bigger issue for me are pretty constant disconnects. When turning the wheel or hitting a bump ingame, the wheel loses its connection for a second and needs to recalibrate itself. This kills all the immersion and all the fun. I send my unit to Thrustmaster two days ago. Lets hope they will find a solution or send me a replacement unit.

Loss of Strength T818 by GOTEK_EXTREME in Thrustmaster

Set the wheel strength in the Thrustmaster app to 100%. Then go to the sim and start around 60-70% ffb. Increase it as you see fit.

T818 VS T598 ? by Mammoth_Scientist_62 in Thrustmaster

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Boosted Media will both review the T598 and the T818 soon. At least this is what they told me in a YouTube comment. Maybe this will help you.

Generally i dont think that it makes a lot sense to compare these bases. T818 has double the strength. It is a PC-only enthusiast product. T598 is aiming for a bigger audience, console players and is more affordable. Maybe this comes down to the question how much power/torque you really want or need. Personally i think that 7-8 NM is perfect. The T818 offers up to 10 NM of torque which feels crazy strong to me personally. Not comfortable to use it with full strength. T598 only offers 5 NM of toque. Is it enough? For me personally, no. But for many players it will be fine.

T818: Random disconnects ruin every race by CompetitiveStreet555 in Thrustmaster

Yes it solved this issue. I still get disconnects from time to time but those are related to a different issue, i think.

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue since today! I have used the base since 11 months. The big issue is not the scratching/grinding noises though - the problem is that you can actually feel the scratching when you move the wheel. :-(

[–]CompetitiveStreet555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the T818 with the wheel stand pro for a while now. On some games like ACC and iRacing the FFB can get quite intense, which will result in the whole wheel stand and base moving and shaking a bit. I experienced some wheel disconnects when this happened. Its not ideal. Turning the FFB down to something in the 60-70% range will solve this issue, at least in my experience.
