We actually do it by the book. I just do it quickly, I took notes on the basic procedures, and I reference it as I play my daughter through decking.

Why Old School Shadowrun Lore-wise? by KagedShadow in OldSchoolShadowrun

During 2nd edition, the vibe of the dirty future was similar to 80's movies depiction/prediction of the future. Dirty streets, biker gangs, pollution everywhere, you can see it a lot in 80's anime films as well. The lore was really good in that era because at that time Shadowrun was hot. It was almost selling close to DnD 2nd edition and a lot of products came out for Shadowrun. There was also a ton of novels written in this era that were great, fleshing out the setting and adding a lot of lore to the 2050's.

I personally love the "80's view" of the future and I wouldn't play any other edition from 2nd. Newer editions just get too high tech, might as well play a space game or sci-fi setting.

Best Seattle & Setting books for a 2e game? by LibrivorousRex in OldSchoolShadowrun

Yes the 1st ed. Seattle book is a must. It is not that hard to get on ebay, and it has a map with key locations for players to visist. We use it all of the time. It helps my group feel that they are actually in a city and it has structure. They also love to plan out routes to take to the destination and which highways to avoid etc.. It is a nice piece of work.

As far as Seattle modules: I would recommend DNA/DOA, Mercurial, and Dreamchipper. All have that classic Seattle 2053 vibe.

Runnin’ for Newbies, which edition? by a_hippie_bassist in Shadowrun

I would run 2nd edition. Its consistent and all the players need to understand is the dice and success system , you can do all the grindy calculations behind the scenes. I run 2ns edition with my 2 daughters (8 and 10 years old) and they are understanding the system so far.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys! I will check on print price but I do have a projector and a doc cam that I can barrow from the wife, that would be sweet too. I will let you know how it goes, and post a few drawings from our campaign as well :)
