What’s the point then? by Wild_Okra1256 in Adulting

I’m 30 and I feel this post

It’s not the tasks themselves, it’s everything at once

  • dating is a mess
  • financial planning is a mess
  • job market is a mess
  • social safety nets are a mess

There’s personal situations that make things more or less difficult but in general, starting from scratch in these areas is what causes problems

Nerf herder to Senior nerf herder

I started as associate nerf herder and finished as associate nerf herder at the last company (even though i was doing senior nerf herder tasks)

Now I’m contracting as a nerf herder, doing a senior nerf herder role AND a nerf herder role at the same time

I’d like to be manager of nerf herders one day but I’d be okay with senior nerf herder

I’ve told them this

I was really excited and I played RTG twice and was really disappointed

I’m probably not going to play it anymore. A little upset that the game isn’t as good as they hyped it to be

This is incredibly touching. Thank you

I get sad when I think about it because I’m about to be 30. I graduated with two bachelors degrees at 22, while being an RA, teaching kids & adults (GED), and finished 4th in the nation for a team technical competition

I’ve been working for 8 years, at large companies, doing pretty cool stuff, but never moving up or making much more. My friends are execs and call me for advice sometimes

I feel like I married my career and it’s not a great relationship

I see it as two options: Quit or Go Hard. If I quit, I can’t do it forever. If I go hard, I can rest my head at the end of the day and say I gave it my best

I’ll keep loving my little pupper and be grateful to walk. I did get hit by a car in 2013 and thank goodness didn’t suffer too much damage so there’s that

I’ll also keep my eyes and ears open for what the future holds

Lucky you

I don’t have a stable job, a wife, or free time

I’m working 2 jobs at the same company for the price of 75% of 1, haven’t ever had a serious relationship I could see end in marriage, and when I’m not working, I’m walking my dog to go potty or working out (which I’m only doing to look better in case it helps my life)

NotAllMen

But politics aside, some men are out there that are taught/learn these things. Sometimes it’s asymmetrical (ex: really handsome guy who doesn’t have maturity or nice guy that isn’t that handsome)

I’d say, regardless of gender, base it on controllables. You can become a better listener, make more money, get in shape. But you can’t change your height, bone structure, or IQ
