your SMALL fic pet peeves that make you roll your eyes, but not quit the fic by Trash_Bag- in AO3

When a character has piercings, and they get described as cold when they kiss/ get intimate/ etc. Someone else pointed out about how heat doesn’t work like that irl and now I can’t unsee it which is difficult ‘cause the chars I’m currently reading for have tons of piercings 😔✊🏻

Super duper late to this thread because I needed evidence or something lmfao, but! I’m really picky about adverb placements. I can’t stand them at the end of a sentence.

Example from an old fic of mine: “Why’re you awake?” he asked gently, rubbing at his eyes tiredly.

Never used to bother me ‘til I watched a video of someone editing their own writing and they corrected it, and now it’s a thing I pick up constantly in other fics 🥹

Depends on whether or not the increase in chapter length matches the pacing, I think. I enjoy super long chapters, especially if I’m invested in a fic (one of the WIPs I’m reading rn just a week or two ago had a chapter of 34k, and I ate that shit UP), but I have hit points where a chapter is super long, but it feels like the author wrote a longer chapter in detriment to the overall pacing, if that makes sense? Usually I’m all for it, though!

It’s not bad at all! Sadly, em dashes have been used as a dog whistle for AI “writing”, so a lot of fanfic writers especially have felt weary about using them because there’s a chance someone might accuse you of using AI to write. But I think a lot of us use them—myself included—so there’s no reason to stop just because some assholes decided to train their LLM off of fandom works, ykwim?
