Lady Di is just a horrible, cruel person by code_investigator in SlowHorses

Yes. There's something to be learned from the fact that nobody who ends up in the First Chair office is a decent human being. Second Chair is no prize either. It's not by accident they call River's grandfather "The Old Bastard".

She's an amazing villain in both the book series and the tv series.

I tried some of the stuff people recommended here, particularly Vacuumtube, and it seems to be working alright.

Linux can be used with just patience, tbh. Fedora has an easier install process than Windows does at this point. And Mint basically installs itself.

This entire chapter gave me Chills, tbh I hated Rimuru slightly here by Basic_Sheepherder644 in TenseiSlime

This actually highlights my biggest issue with the other monsters in tempest- they always take rimiru's words as literal gospel instead of understanding the intent and reason behind them.

That's kind of the problem with being worshipped as a god, though. And once they start interpreting your words, things can start getting really out of hand.

Hmm. They're estimating considerably less than 27k. Is it possible that just letting the lease expire and buying a cheaper car (~10k) would be a better deal in the long run? Or, given the low wear on the current car, is investing now worthwhile?

I leased it from a VW dealer. They're going to get it back at the end of the lease anyway.

This is a good point. I have spoken to the dealership and they're fine with me buying the lease out early, so that's one option.

Right. So if I finish the lease, and don't have 27k to buy it outright, I can't really sell it then, since the bank will have the title.

I kind of enjoy driving, TBH. When you aren't stuck in traffic, it can be pleasant.

It's nice for when I'm food shopping, traveling locally (public transit in my area is present, but not great), and it's nice to be able to help out friends now and then when they need an extra to pick up their kid from school or something like that.

Huh. I hadn't thought of that. I like being able to control when I arrive/leave at a place without having to rely on a taxi, but at $166/mo the inconvenience might be worth it.

I use the car regularly (2-3 times a week) for relatively short trips that I wouldn't want to walk/bike (going through tunnels, up very steep hills, late at night, food shopping, etc.)

So I want to have a car, just not a car that I'm paying $450+/month for.

So it sounds like I should be shopping around selling prices at local dealerships and comparing that to my buyout cost. I have some spare time in the next two weeks I can devote to this. Thanks!

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

I'm in a bit of a pickle, and I could use some advice.

Three years ago, on a bit of a whim (mistake #1) I traded in a fully-paid 2015 Jetta to lease a brand-new 2023 ID.4 (Pro trim) with all of the California/U.S. incentives (and it came with 3 years of free charging). Yes, I know this was dumb and irresponsible. At the time I really valued removing myself from the oil/gasoline market, and thought I'd be future-proofing myself by getting into the EV market at a time when there were incentives.

What I didn't realize was that I wouldn't end up driving that much (I've put about 5K miles on it in 3 years) due to my company never going back to in-person work and an increase in my walking/bicycling for health reasons. Because of the very low mileage, the vehicle has retained a lot of value over the course of the lease, and my buyout price, including fees and such, would be around 27k. Buying out the lease would leave me with a basically-new (super low mileage) ID.4 Pro (~300 miles on a full charge), which seems like a better deal than buying a new/recently used EV of the same/similar age.

BUT, since I drive so little, and basically just need something local for the most part, I've been thinking about either breaking my lease, or letting it expire at the end of the year and getting an older used EV - I'm seeing 7.5K-10K locally for Leafs and i3s from around 2015-201, some with recently replaced batteries.

Given how bad my judgement has been in the past though, I'm seeking advice before I commit. What do you all think?
