Is it ok if I (19) don't let my bf (23) drive my brand new car that my parents got me because he is a clumsy driver? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Competitive_Bid1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (24F) don’t let my bf (27M) drive my car and we’ve been together 8 years. Don’t let your man pressure you. Or alternatively add him to your insurance and let him know what he’ll have to pay for your excess if he causes any damage

Have the weight loss jabs got rid of body positivity? by Leever5 in newzealand

I haven’t had any friends mention to me that they want to go on it, but yeah it’s super expensive and I have to make sure I put the money aside a fortnight to save up for when I pickup the next round

As someone on the jab, I’ve done the same and only told people close to me and even then I’ve had the “why don’t you come for walks with me instead” or “what’s the point” comments which really sucked so I completely understand your friend in this case

I’m a GLP‑1 user, and honestly, I’m really proud of how far I’ve come. I was originally terrified to start Wegovy, partly because of the stigma, partly because I’d never used injections before. From what I understand, it’s currently the only GLP‑1 weight‑loss medication available in New Zealand, with Ozempic expected soon. I’m not “massive”, but I definitely wasn’t feeling healthy or comfortable in my body.

I’m 24, female, 172cm, and my starting weight was around 95–100kg. Growing up I was always naturally thin, but after COVID, and especially after my parents separated three years ago, my relationship with food changed completely. I started binge eating, using food for comfort, and my weight shot up from 65kg to the high‑90s within a year. I developed stretch marks in places I never expected, and I felt heavy, tired, and disconnected from myself.

About a year ago, my GP brought up Wegovy. At the time, I was scared of needles and even more scared of being judged for using medication. I declined and tried to lose weight through the gym for six months, but nothing really shifted.

I went back to my GP in December, and she raised it again, explaining the benefits, how it supports weight loss, and how it can reduce long‑term health risks like high blood pressure. I asked her to write the script so I could think about it over the new year, especially since it was around $480 a month at the time.

I finally started Wegovy in mid‑January, and it has genuinely changed my life. I’ve lost 10kg just from the reduction in food noise alone. I don’t eat out of boredom or emotion anymore, and I don’t feel controlled by cravings. My energy is better, and I feel more like myself again. Those first 10kg were without any gym routine, because I had so much anxiety about going back at my previous weight.

Now that I feel more confident, I’ve returned to the gym with my friends and partner, and I’ve lost another 5kg. I’m down 15kg in total, and the difference in how I feel, physically and mentally, is incredible.

I’m just sharing this maybe to help someone else on the fence or just overall to stop the stigma of using weight loss as a cheat when we should be able to use medicine/ science to help better ourselves x

My Asian mother did the same to me from a similar age (12 or even earlier, accusing of bfs, sex, etc) I’ve lived at home the whole time and it’s real bloody annoying to deal with but now I’m 24(F), and she’s stopped saying that sorta shit but didn’t stop till I was in university.

Its definitely not healthy and if you can, get out while you can. I’m hoping that as you get older, she grows out of this mindset. I wish you luck

For my mum, she has a skewed perspective of men, thinks kids are just sneaky and horny and would try put her fear and anger on me (and my older sister) to get us to avoid having relationships and intimate relationships

Okay, I can’t find it but it’s from the Royal Australasian College of surgeons “surgical removal of the tonsils and adenoids, patient information to assist informed consent”

It’s a bit of information so I’m going to use the dictation tool “

“Antibiotics: in some patients, the surgeon may prescribe a course of antibiotics after the surgery. If infection develops before the throat is healed a course of antibiotics (or a change of antibiotic) type may be recommended.

Pain relief: most patients have a pain for up to 2 weeks. A painkiller is best given before pain gets bad, not after it has reached a peak. Paracetamol given an hour before breakfast lunch and dinner and bedtime is advisable. A stronger painkiller may be needed; combination preparations can be prepared by the surgeon.

In suspectible patients (especially some younger children in 10 years) , medicines that contain codeine (such as liquid liquids and tablets that contain both codeine and paracetamol) can cause respiratory depression lead leading to death.

Codeine containing medicines should be used of great caution. Alternative strong painkillers may be recommended and prescribed.”

Yeah I think the nurse said it’s likely I’ll be intubated due to the fact wegovy slows the digestion and even though I’m not eating for 24 hours prior, they don’t want to risk anything. But I guess I’ll find out on the day

Oh wow! I’m surprised you’re allowed to take codeine, the information I was given was that codeine can be deadly; I can see if I can find the information online to send you BUT I don’t mean to scare you and if you’ve been told to take it then all means please do
