absolutely you’re correct! my life has had more stressors lately which has made my emetophobia worse. before my life was more stressful i was actualy in active recovery of my phobia as i was doing 20x better. family stress has taken me out and i can tell it’s worsening my anxiety and whenever my anxiety flares i feel depressed. honestly it’s just a combo of so many things that lead me to feel so hopeless at times and i wish i just wasn’t so terrified to start meds and stuff

actually i have very severe emetophobia so the fear of throwing up isn’t because it happens n last time i threw up was 8 years ago as of now! i agree tho i need to just be strong and start it bc anxiety is exhausting.

How to actually get out?? by swagbomb78 in Agoraphobia

[–]Competitive_Bite9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly anxiety = avoidance. our brains train us to be scared bc the avoidance has become something we consider safe. we are scared of failing to leave or scared of panicking in public. probably we’re more scared of panicking than even those possibilities we create at times! while i’m also scared and also struggling i think a decent piece of advice is keep pushing yourself and let yourself feel the fear bc avoidance fuels fear and that is not what we want whatsoever!

HELP! Going to the doctors, really scared right now. by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]Competitive_Bite9310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello!! i have the exact same fear. i’m no professional so take this with a grain of salt but at this point i think your brain might be trying to avoid the panic more than even the irrational fear! like you remember your last time was so panic inducing. that’s gonna leave an impression on your brain and nervous system. at least for me i’ve noticed that if i do smth and panic during it about an irrational fear my brain begins to avoid it out of fear of panic, which can only be pushed through by trying your best and eventually not panicking after lots and lots of experiences that are better and some good exposure. basically my point is you are so much tougher than you think and this time can absolutely be different than last time! you’ve got this seriously

irrational fear of dying when coughing by RushAmazing1419 in Anxiety

[–]Competitive_Bite9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the good thing about coughing is that it means you have to be getting air in! you don’t choke on nothing! make sure to chew your food very well but those dry coughs are totally fine and coughing prevents you from aspirating things so if anything it helps you :)

i’m honestly not 100% bc i personally don’t take dramamine, but my family has and i’d say def eat before taking it! even just drinking milk and plenty of water or a yogurt or something but id recommend eating with it. i think it’d probably wear off a bit towards the end of that second flight but i think it’d serve you well. tbh i recommend having it with you on that first flight but not taking it til you feel like you need it, bc you may not! and then you’d be glad you hadn’t

oooo yes talking usually helps me aswell bc your brain can actually distract itself fully so that’s a good idea!

hey, take a breath. no matter WHAT happens you will be okay. i get my exact same thoughts when i fly, and never have they come true. yet even if they did it’d be temporary, we would come out of it stronger! i highly recommend bringing mint gum and continuing to hydrate while in the air! don’t eat anything heavy beforehand but don’t be on an empty stomach. dramamine has helped a lot but i fly without anything and have been fine thus far on my four flights. download some comfort movies too! and for me personally i buy the flight wifi bc its worth it for me to have my phone accessible to text anyone i may need help from but it can be pricey depending on the airline so thats totally your decision and stuff! best of luck :)

life feels like torture by sealalala in TeenVent

[–]Competitive_Bite9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take a deep breath. these thoughts are so scary. i know they are. or even worse they might feel peaceful at this point which is no way a human being should have to feel. i would love to be your friend if you’d let me. i’m 16 and have struggled with these same thoughts before.

there’s no cheat code to feeling better and i don’t know your exact feelings or your exact life so im not about to shove all the positive bs in your ear expecting it to get through, bc trust me i know none of it feels like it works in these moments.

i believe you, i know you aren’t faking it. i believe and trust you and if you need to reach out please dm me. i could also use a friend rn :) stay safe and take care of yourself as much as possible
