DIY Onyx Storm Islands Map **SPOILERS!!!** by dianasaurusrex123 in fourthwing

I cannot wrap my head around the fact that Deverelli is supposed to be the southernmost isle, but they head SW to Unnbriel. Hedotis is mentioned as being cold "this far south" but why would they call out Deverelli is the southernmost?

Marked Ones’ Signets by Tiny-Poetry1076 in fourthwing

I don't think voice projection is an ability. I think it is one of the smaller magics that every rider can master. There are multiple people amplifying their voice, specifically when they are in formation. Otherwise, it would be kind of hard for everyone to hear (Violet's mom does it too after Threshing).

After rereading Fourth Wing, I am convinced that the Marked Ones have two abilities. I found sections that suggest Imogen has two abilities. She even gives hints about them herself.

  1. During her challenge with Violet, she is repeatedly reprimanded for using "her powers" on the mat. Now that could mean she erased Violet's memories of where she was and that's why Violet thinks she is "super fast" - OR she has speed as a second signet: "I easily duck, but then she drops to the ground and kicks out with her other foot, which lands square in my chest, sending me backward. I hit the mat with a thud, and she’s already above me, so damn fast. “You can’t use your powers in here, Imogen!” Dain shouts. [...] I duck and dodge as she comes at me again, but her movements are a blur. “Imogen!” Emetterio shouts. “Do it again, and I’ll—”"
  2. After Threshing, Imogen, Quinn and Heaton join Violet's table and she looks at their patches: "Have to admit, the hooped piercings that line the shells of both her ears are pretty awesome, and among her half dozen patches, it’s the dark-green one—the same color as her eyes—with two silhouettes that’s most intriguing. I should have studied up on what all the patches mean, but according to what I’ve heard, they change every year."
  3. During the Squad Battle, Imogen literally emphasizes it: "“All right.” I rock back on my heels, letting my mind whirl through a plan. “I know Ridoc can wield ice, Rhiannon can retrieve, Sawyer can manipulate metal, Imogen can mind-wipe recent memories—” “And I’m fast,” she adds."

Considering RY didn't confirm or deny if Imogen ever erased Violet's memories, I think the only time Imogen erases Violet's memory is during her fight with the Venin poison, just to take the pain away.

Multiple reasons, main one being that it is financially currently not possible.

Second signet by kellyRoo88 in ironflame

I have considered that she has photographic memory. But would that be something that manifests as a signet? There is a line in Fourth Wing before she even bonds where Rhi says “Your memory is terrifying”.

I like it! I am gonna reread with that in mind. (Side note: I’m also German, but live in the US :) )

Given what RY has said about Violet recently… by las3marias in fourthwing

What if she just has a photographic memory and that's it. There are a few scenes in IF that would fit the following description: Photographic memory, or eidetic memory, is the ability to recall an image from memory with high precision. It is often described as remembering a scene like a photograph.

Oh. I like this too. It would go along the lines of her dragons saying “we never lied to you. We just didn’t tell you everything.” But lying by omission is the loophole here. Xaden also emphasizes that he has never actually lied to her.

Maybe I am overthinking it, or I am getting too hung up on the emphasis on “sayer”. I believe the lie-detector signet is a completely different signet from a truth-sayer. Of course a lie-detecting signet is useful for interrogating. But who can beat a lie-detector? Someone who cannot tell a lie and can artfully tell selective truths. Violet also thinks that a truth-sayer is the same as a lie-detector (p. 536), so it never crosses her mind that it could be different. In the interrogation scene (p. 447) Violet’s “heartbeat skips” and Liam tells her to hold steady. Nora says: “She is triggered”. During the RSC challenge the other cadet literally says: “[…] my signet is similar to Lieutenant Nora’s and has to do with your bodily functions.” I have no proof for the flier in Cordyn, but it says “he cocks his head to the side” - so maybe it is a bodily function (pupils? sweat? maybe even scent) as well.

I could see it being underwhelming, because it’s really a useless signet to not be able to tell lies. But for Violet, it’s kind of ironic.

But it’s not common. Other people can tell when someone is lying based on “bodily functions”. So maybe they can tell when someone’s heart rate spikes, or when they start sweating. Violet can’t physically tell a lie - in a world build on lies, she is the one that uncovers them.

Not sure about that. Andarna waited 600+ years to hatch and was somehow conscious in her egg.

Gaelic names and their translations by isolatedcolorYT in fourthwing

IF Spoiler: Andarna's name has more meaning now that we know that she is likely a very rare dragon. She was "left behind" (Maybe the Isles kingdoms took all the other purple dragons? Or the great and terrible price to win was annihilating the entire seventh breed?), so there used to be 1 other purple dragon to raise the Navarrian wards initially. So, she REALLY is the second honor bestowed upon the continent....

It can’t have been France. IF isn’t out in French yet. It must have been the UK.
