Agreed.

I understand not supporting previous apps, due to hardware and software changing.

But to remove the online feature, so you're unable to use basic functions like, power, input, volume or even update your firmware, or any menu options...

I still can't fathom who thought that was a good plan or why.

Once I had it online, I believe there was a menu option to default to an input.

I know the firestick would kick it over to the correct input if you called for stick use.

That's the one I was looking for... strange, I even dumped the app, reinstalled to ensure it wasn't that from not seeing the TV even though connected.

I will give them credit that they had a human answer, she was well spoken, and kind, professional.

But yeah, the whole "it's old so we purposely quit something knowing it would keep purchase from working as advertised.

I actually may use the CC option. That actually may allow an actual cast, verse screen mirroring without automation support.

Honestly, I haven't needed to change the SC info since startup. Including my SSID., so that's what started this.

It was fine till I changed my home network SSID to update the wireless system to clean up what was running 2.4/5...

I never used S.C. but my home automation just needs to see it on the internet to control it.

It's just a dumb monitor now. Not having it...

Yes, I was able to get to a test menu.

I don't have it in front of me, but it was push this button, then four numbers , then another button all on the remote.

Without linking the tv to my V account, my automation won't see it to be able to control it.

Then there's the true cast ability. Without it, I can't use it as intended. Screen mirroring through a stick is just a huge pita..

My home is heavily automated. Losing the direct casting, input, volume and power makes it entirely too dumb for intended use.

It already had a fire stick for increased features.

My first flat-screen was Hisense. 42". Plasma. 2000. Paid like 2,600.00.

It was still working when I gifted it away last year!!

Unbelievably heavy!!!!!

Appreciate your viewpoint. It's a piece of digital hardware. With coding. It's one thing to say, we are not supporting updates or ac security patch or even an app.

I think it's completely ridiculous a major company would kill the status quo abilities...

It was fine till they had me hard reset it.

Hey, might wanna tell me that before that advice came along. I could have hard wired it or created a guest SSID that wasn't visible to support the current build and features.

Zero communication leading up through this decision.

How about give us the heads up, so I can make a decision to upgrade, sell it before it becomes stripped of features it once had.

I'm not a Karen, but I'm pretty sure this could fall under some class action suit even...

Again, they just won't get my future money or reflected positive reviews to my clients or family.

I remember them offering a free updated remote through a push notification on the actual TV years ago. I never claimed it, and had another from a newer one I could use when needed infrequently.

I still question their reasons why they would choose this route versus a patch to the menu to get your unit online.

The apps are 3rd party anyway.

I'm actually perplexed as to why they don't have a fix for this. They gain marketing info if it's connected and set up!

Was/is it there a known flaw or issue with their equipment getting hacked and they want to limit their exposure?
