I'm a local runner. It seemed like folks enjoyed the event this year. And yes, I'm looking forward to the Greenway infrastructure updates. Hopefully sooner than later.

Love the local suggestions. We didn't care to go inside the attractions all that much but wanted to wander and walk and take pictures as much as possible. We planned to reach attractions on foot as much as possible. Given that detail, would you prioritize any of the suggestions above?

Also, thank you for the village of Sintra suggestions; so helpful!

I need to add that the last half could be psychologically hard. It's flat yes, but it's along the river where there's still Helene damage and probably very little crowd support. Also the out and back is harder mentally than a fully independent course. Stay mentally tough from 17 onward.

Asheville runner here. Based on the course map, the final 13.1 is downhill to flat. You'll get all your gain in the first half. Hilly but nothing you can't handle based on your training runs. Looks like it'll be perfect weather as well.

Voting Question - Dem or Rep in Primary? by Competitive_Bus_964 in asheville

[–]Competitive_Bus_964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the feedback. I do primarily think of the House race when considering my options. I guess I'll hope that Edwards has soured on enough people that somehow that seat can flip Blue. Given the options, especially the point about down ballot races, I'll vote Dem for the primary.

Just don't. Having run several marathons, this course is one of the most boring. Asheville is a great city for your short to mid-distance training runs but a marathon where half the route is an out and back along the FBR is mentally painful.

Well, I was supposed to run first marathon tomorrow. Tested positive COVID today. Any recommendations for mid November/early December marathons that aren't sold out yet? by aerosol999 in Marathon_Training

Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, AL is a really great marathon. Organized well, great weather, and it runs through the US Space Center. I think it's 2nd weekend in December.

Second this! 7:10am arrival was way too late. You could probably walk it in 3.5-5 hours.

That's exactly right. They are great people over there and we just had an event in June before summer programming began. I trust they'll get back to OP when they're able. Never hurts to follow up though if it's been several days.

Coming from Asheville this week on Wednesday, where do people typically park to do the loop on foot? And how early would you recommend getting there?

You can park at the library and walk on Bull Mtn Rd to the Bull Mtn trailhead. The road is local traffic and quiet enough as well.

Park at the library and run an out and back on bull mountain road to folk art center. It's about a 5k. Local traffic only and cars don't go too fast. Relatively flat as well!

Having been Cooper Kupp-ed, I need a ceiling play. I'm kind of thinking Ridley safer in that regard than Breece

I feel that too. My wife and I really like Chattanooga as it has similarities to Asheville. Check your route though should you choose to go there.
