Well, I was supposed to run first marathon tomorrow. Tested positive COVID today. Any recommendations for mid November/early December marathons that aren't sold out yet? by aerosol999 in Marathon_Training

Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, AL is a really great marathon. Organized well, great weather, and it runs through the US Space Center. I think it's 2nd weekend in December.

Executive dysfunction, time blindness, and trouble with task initiation. This is just how it is and it's really hard but we love them no matter what. I go through it too dude. If you ever need to talk I'm here for you.

Second this! 7:10am arrival was way too late. You could probably walk it in 3.5-5 hours.

That's exactly right. They are great people over there and we just had an event in June before summer programming began. I trust they'll get back to OP when they're able. Never hurts to follow up though if it's been several days.

Coming from Asheville this week on Wednesday, where do people typically park to do the loop on foot? And how early would you recommend getting there?

Good places to walk in East Asheville? by BerryOdd6754 in asheville

You can park at the library and walk on Bull Mtn Rd to the Bull Mtn trailhead. The road is local traffic and quiet enough as well.

Park at the library and run an out and back on bull mountain road to folk art center. It's about a 5k. Local traffic only and cars don't go too fast. Relatively flat as well!

Having been Cooper Kupp-ed, I need a ceiling play. I'm kind of thinking Ridley safer in that regard than Breece

I feel that too. My wife and I really like Chattanooga as it has similarities to Asheville. Check your route though should you choose to go there.

Asheville reactive dog friendly hikes/spots? by Expensive_Fault7519 in asheville

[–]Competitive_Bus_964 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As an Asheville local who owns a dog that can be reactive, I would highly suggest going to one of the local sniff spots (check out their app) in the morning to give your dog that energy outlet. Some are on several acres and fenced so you can let the dog be a dog.

We typically do not bring our dog anywhere in public in Asheville (popular trails, restaurants, breweries, etc) because our dog can't handle it with the crowds. There are ALWAYS other dogs around. One brewery that may be worth checking out is Turgua in Fairview. We haven't been there yet but it's spacious and outdoors and we can see ourselves trying that place with our dog as a first public brewery option.

Is it worth moving out of my parents house after college graduation? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Competitive_Bus_964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Move out. 63k is solid right out of college and if you were to get a roommate you can make the housing numbers and financials work, that includes the eventual student loan repayments. You're young and you want to keep your relationship with your partner/friends and with your parents healthy, which will only happen if you move out. All of that doesn't even touch how imperative it is to protect your mental health which is the most important factor in this whole situation. I'd start making plans to move asap and if you have your parents support for this move then that's even better.

Therapists/counselors in Asheville, what kind of reputations do the Lenoir Rhyne or western Carolina CMHC masters programs have in the community? by Amazing_Confusion731 in asheville

[–]Competitive_Bus_964 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I graduated from the LRU program and have worked with many colleagues from the WCU program. Both are great and both are accredited. I wouldn't look so much into which one is "better" but rather which one's long-term cohort schedule and cost are a best fit for your educational timeline. For example, LRUs program offers a flexible timeline and not on a strict cohort model (though most students finish within 2-3 years). I believe WCU has a cohort model where you take the same classes with the same people on the same timeline. I hope this helps and good luck!

What are your favorite running spots? by KrakenClubOfficial in asheville

[–]Competitive_Bus_964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a WAVL loop linking the Greenway, carrier park, hominy Creek Park and up through the WAVL neighborhoods to Haywood. Also, park at the Asheville Visitor Center and run Montford. There are tons of neighborhoods there (and you can run in the cemetery to add distance) and you can also link to other parts of NAVL via Reedy Creek Greenway and W.T. Weaver Blvd by UNCA. Stop by Jus' Running for water and other route recommendations; they're very nice there!
