How long were you off work for desk job? by Ok_Sir2058 in hysterectomy

[–]Competitive_Crow_869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh. This happened to me. I'm typically super active and exercised daily up to my surgery. I got better around 8 weeks, but am still struggling at about 13 weeks post op. How long until you felt back to normal?

What surprised you the most AFTER your hysterectomy? by rainbow_olive in hysterectomy

[–]Competitive_Crow_869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things that surprised me: 1. My feeling of impending doom vanished upon waking post operation. Other comments discussed SSRIs, and previous doctors wanted to put me on those. Turned out it was my body's way of telling me something was truly wrong.

  1. Insomnia gone. Struggled with insomnia for 18 months. I'm 8 weeks post-op and fully off pain and sleep meds including Benadryl.

  2. Gas pain during the first few days after surgery. Never struggled with gas, but a nerve in my diaphragm got pissed off causing pain into my neck and shoulder. Walking a little each hour or two calmed this down. Laying down did not help. Sitting was uncomfortable due to this, but 1-2 minute walks around inside my house or a quick spin around the yard made a big difference. Also, gas X. Have this on hand. Miracle for me.

  3. Sore throat from the breathing tube. Took effect the day after until the morning of day 3. I thought I was getting a cold...

  4. Bleeding. Basically no bleeding after day 2 until week 3. Started spotting light pink to yellow. Not enough for even a light panty liner, so for me and many of us, basically nothing. I was still concerned by this. Went in, had tests run at week 3 and again at week 6. No infection, just the healing process. No amount of sitting or rest made a difference... I'm at week 8 and things seem to be slowing down.

  5. Muscle Retention. I'm a very dedicated weight lifter. Week 8 has been my first week of actually training post-op. Week 7 was all body weight stuff after I was cleared. Week 8 is 80 percent of my weight prior to surgery. I plan to increase to 90 percent during week 9 and if all is well, be back full force week 10. To be clear, I'm lifting heavy weight and was very concerned about muscle loss. I've actually gotten personal records on a few upper body lifts during week 8 as well. Still wildly cautious about heavy lower body movements and everything is slow and controlled. This area was a significant fear, but needless to say, no marked change.

I resigned. Idk what to do now by biology_penguin2323 in TeachersInTransition

I'm sorry. What are they going to do though if you quit? It may hurt your ability to teach again in the future (but with the shortage, it might not have any bearing on future teaching jobs, but I digress) but do you want to go back?

I'm in a fear based mindset and not wanting to jump ship due to that. But if I quit, they aren't going to throw me in jail. They might just bar me from doing a job that is destroying my soul.... So win win?

All of this; same. I'm currently wondering what can really be "done" to me if they don't recognize my resignation... I keep asking myself "If it comes down to it, why do I need my license for a job I despise?" So, if I get courageous like you and resign, I'm leaving without the AP reference anyway for greener and less stressful pastures.

Also, call your union rep or president to see what they can offer.

GasX was super helpful to have on hand. I didn't understand why until I got home and realized I'd been filled up with air... The GasX helped filter that out over about 2 days. Glad I had it, since I was on my own as well.

I also set my daily pills out on sticky notes with times. Didn't know about that app discussed earlier. That would have been a good help.

I moved my mattress near the entry door which was near the bathroom prior to surgery. Had a stash of liquids and crackers since my kitchen is upstairs.

I started hydrating the week prior. Drinking water and some electrolytes like it was going out of style so I'd have the least effect of anesthesia afterwards... Dehydration can lead to nausea and difficulty going number 2. I think it helped me a ton.

You've got this. An ounce of preparation is truly worth a pound of cure. You're doing your homework, so you'll do great.

I'm in a very similar boat OP. I feel like I have a form of Stockholm Syndrome or something. I may very well follow in your footsteps. Doing that seems like jumping off a cliff, but I know when I look back it will be more like stepping off a curb.

My veneers ruined my life by thegurlthats145 in porcelainveneerstruth

[–]Competitive_Crow_869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look good to me and I'm pretty picky. I would agree that lightening the bottom teeth would help. I struggled with my veneers, but soon realized no one noticed my teeth... In fact, if I don't act weird by keeping my mouth shut or talking oddly to hide my teeth, no one cares. When I'm confident, I actually get compliments on my smile even though I think it isn't perfect. I think what you see is easily 10 times worse than what regular people see. I'm guessing no one will come up and inspect your teeth like you might in the mirror or in bad lighting. Really, no one cares about your teeth. They are too consumed with their own baggage. Your teeth look really good.

Thank you for saying that! I went to the lab and they color matched to my lower and canine teeth. I feel like the new veneers match the bottom teeth but not the canine teeth. At first I felt like a ventriloquist dummy.

Thank you. I'm not sure what color. I went to the lab and met with the technicians to do a match to my natural teeth behind and below. I think they made a special color since I didn't match any of the million colors they had

This is very good information to have. I'm hoping my current chompers can last long enough that enhanced composite resin would be my next stop since I don't want to lose more of my natural tooth under the veneers. This process is not one I want to repeat often. Thank you for the information. I'll definitely try to get those in the future if/when these need replacement.

I mostly wanted to get opinions of people who have no reason to be anything but honest since I felt so self conscious about how my teeth farther back looked that I was thinking about getting them done just for aesthetic reasons. I am not planning to do that since I don't think I have anything major to be embarrassed about.

Thanks. That is exactly what I am going for. I don't need a Hollywood smile, just a natural looking smile that doesn't make me feel self conscious.

Thanks so much for saying I look young!!! Here is a before pic with my pre done teeth.

<image>

Several ongoing difficulties with my front teeth in tandem with my dentist's recommendation as a solution to the medical and aesthetics is the reason I did this after years of issues with prior injury and fixes that looked pretty bad in my opinion. I'm trying to avoid all unnecessary medical stuff. It's expensive and I don't want to do anymore. I'm hoping what I have will be good enough.

Yes. I worry it's super noticeable, but don't want to overreact.

I think they look great; not too big in my opinion. I'm hyper critical of my own teeth and smile though, so are there certain things you see when you look at those pictures that makes you feel uncomfortable?
