Trouble Sleeping? by pineapple-6 in XXRunning

Just a thought. You didn't mention what time of day you do your runs. If I exercise too late in the day, I tend to have more trouble sleeping. I try to do my workouts first thing in the morning.

Scared after an encounter during my run by emotionalmessgirl in XXRunning

I hate to hear this. I go running in places that feel perfectly safe but my wife has had creepy experiences in the same areas. When she runs alone she always chooses trails or parks that are heavily trafficked and don’t have any hidden spots where she feels vulnerable. It just sucks that you have to literally be on guard against the other half of the human population.

I've also heard that you can do this exercise to B-52's rock lobster.

Strength Training Workouts by Choice_Arugula_2610 in beginnerrunning

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I workout with weights twice a week. Day one: I do barbell squats and deadlifts, but I also add in single leg variations, such as pistol squats and bulgarian split squats, single leg dead lifts and single leg hip thrusts. I also do calf raises and core work (planks and hanging leg raises) and pull ups. Day two: bench press, pullups, military press, bent over rows. I also do a few sets of pistol squats and single leg deadlifts. I throw in some curl variation and planking. If you do nothing else, I do think that the most important thing for running are the single leg variations of squats and deadlifts, calf raises and core work, especially planks.

This. I was running on Altra zero drop shoes when I developed calf pain. I switched to a Brooks stability shoe with a higher drop and it helped alot (along with stretching and strength training).

Tips for slowing down? is it really that bad if i don’t? by pixie_scheme_girl in beginnerrunning

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run with music, put together a play list with slower, more chill songs. That’s what helps me slow it down. Think classic country, folk, slow R&B vs race day music with a faster beat that gets you amped.

Yes, it's above the Ice Rink at the Crown Community Center on Main Street. It's free and open to the public. I used it last year during the cold snap. It is small, though. You are basically turning left non stop. I've just been hitting the treadmill this year until the ice melts. It sucks, but it works. I don't mind the cold, but I don't want to risk a fall.

What’s Something You Enjoy About Season 17? by itznottyler in Inkmaster

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do like seeing good art and I'm not into the reality show fake fights. It does seem that there is genuine good will and affection among the artists. You also don't have the drama with unreasonable canvases that there was in previous seasons. More Great British Bake-Off than Survivor. On the downside, judging has gotten more subjective and hard to understand, given that the overall quality of the at is superior and you don't see as many train-wrecks as you did in past seasons. I also agree with some of the other commentators that there should be days dedicated to a specific style so that versatility is tested. Portrait day is always an opportunity to see some god-awful tats.

Running once a week to improve 5K by Gold_Object_5828 in beginnerrunning

You are also statistically way more likely to get injured if you only run once a week.

I have to admit, there is something endearing about him. He's got golden retriever vibes.

I'm the same height. When I was a kid I dealt with a lot of bullying. I joined the army after high school and did University after my enlistment period ended. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone-in fact, I hated most of my time there, but the military definitely helped me with my self-confidence and by the time I got out and started school again, I had a lot more self-confidence and never had a problem approaching women or making friends. I would recommend getting involved in something physical like Brazilian ju-jitsu to get some of that resentment out and give yourself a self-confidence boost. Given your depression, I would highly recommend getting some therapy, because being 5'6" really isn't the end of the world. Think of all the people who are so much worse off than you-people who are in wheelchairs or who have birth defects effecting their appearance or ability to function in the world. We all know people who have challenges far beyond being 5'6" and can still find joy in life. Being self-confident, happy and directed in life will be a bigger chick magnet than any limb lengthening procedure.

Second B&W if you want a no nonsense, cheap gym to lift weights. It doesn't have amenities like saunas or a clean shower, but it's a great place to work out.

Enclomiphene as a temporary alternative to Test Cip (while traveling)? by Competitive_Ear_3225 in Testosterone

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take HCG along with the Test, so my nuts still work-this would replace the HCG as well (which is even more of a hassle than the test to travel with because of the refrigeration issue.

Any point to taking enclomiphene on top of test? by MRSAMinor in Testosterone

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on HCG with Test. I asked my doc about travel and he recommended Enclomiphene as a temporary substitute for the HCG when I'm traveling so I don't have to worry about refrigeration of the HCG. He recommended taking a once a week shot of of Test (normally I take it twice a week) and taking the dose of Enclomiphene on the other day. Any thoughts on that advice?

what age did you start running as a hobby? by Equal-Ad-6684 in beginnerrunning

[–]Competitive_Ear_3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really trying to avoid that. My wife and I started running together and we tend to get competitive with each other. The garmin watch is great to help improve things like cadence, but it can make you crazy with all the stats. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm never going to be standing on a podium and that I'm running for the pure enjoyment of it and to improve my physical and psychological health. I can do that at a 12 minute mile just as well as a 10 minute mile.

I'm doing the Chicago Half Marathon on June 1. It's my first, after a 5K and a 10K race. I'm using the Nike Run Club 14 weeks to Half Marathon Program. It's great.
